    Uh-oh

"49ers suspend broadcaster for saying Ravens QB Jackson had advantage due to ‘dark skin color with a dark football'

The 49ers have suspended Tim Ryan, their radio color analyst, over comments he made on a Bay Area sports talk radio show Monday in which he said Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson, who is black, is exceptional at faking handoffs because of his “dark skin color with a dark football.”

Dark football, dark jersey, dark exposed skin, holding the dark football in front of a dark background. Sounds accurate.
    It’s called camouflage not racism.

This is the part about the USA that I hate. Clearly it wasn’t a prejudicial statement.

The radio analyst is not racist, just moronic - unless he heard from members of the 49ers defense that it was difficult to track the ball fakes due to Jackson’s skin color and the dark home jerseys, which would be reporting, you just cannot go there as a member of a broadcast that has sponsors

Waiting for Roger to issue an edict that the Ravens will be wearing white jerseys if they play the Patriots in the playoffs

He opened himself up to controversy by not doing that and just giving his own opinion in a manner that Sherman agreed was poorly phrased by putting the racial factor directly in play with his comments. Sherman, who has never been bashful about speaking out, seemed to indicate he is savvy enough to know there are certain terms he would try to avoid.

Like the refs with bad calls the commentator should try to avoid becoming the story unless he is someone like Stephen A or Cowherd who is paid to stir up shit

When you are factually correct but not allowed to say it because someone might get upset by it ... well, that's just stupid.

You're right about everything you just said, but it's a sorry state of affairs, and I think it's absolutely justified to say the people responsible for that state of affairs are a bunch of useless shitheads who can go suck a dick.

What if he said it was difficult to spot the ball in Garropolos arm because he was wearing a black sleeve? Or easy to spot the ball because his sling is white?

It appears to have been his personal observation. Ryan is saying, I couldn't tell "when he was in and out of the mesh point".

Ryan's quote: “He’s really good at that fake, Lamar Jackson, but when you consider his dark skin color with a dark football with a dark uniform, you could not see that thing,” Ryan said on air. “I mean, you literally could not see when he was in and out of the mesh point, and if you’re a half step slow on him in terms of your vision, forget about it, he’s out of the gate.”

I would say that's fair. It was what he observed/saw during that game. He isn't saying that the only reason Lamar Jackson is any good is because he has dark skin. He's saying this is what I observed during the game against us, the 49ers, on that day. Now, was it very smart? No. But it was a fair observation.
