I've probably only seen tripping called 3 times in the last 15 years or so, and then saw two last night that were very suspect. Especially that last one.

Yes, the Ravens have Jackson and (finally) have an offense that can score points in bunches. But the Baltimore defense, after a few subtractions and additions, have done their share as well. In New England’s case, their defense has almost always been vanilla, but Brady and Co. have been the driver. Not so this season.

I think the Patriots defense has contributed way more to the Patriots W-L record this year than the Ravens offense has been responsible for their W-L record. And in the post-season, I feel that if things continue as they are, the Pats are going to have a tough road to hoe.

I pretty much agree. I would say that some of those defenses over the years were more than vanilla, but I agree with your basic premise that this year it's defense first and foremost and it's highly likely that will catch up with them again as it did already against the Ravens.

Defense. Signing Peters, Fort and Bynes made a big difference. But “losing” Jefferson probably made the biggest change. I think his communication caused a lot of blown coverages.
