    Snell Caught With Marijuana

Snell stepping up to fill the RB repeatedly caught with pot position vacated by Le'Veon

A drug charge filed in an Ohio court against Pittsburgh Steelers running back Benny Snell was withdrawn, but the rookie could still face consequences under the NFL’s code of conduct.

Snell, who the Steelers selected in the fourth round of the NFL draft, admitted to smoking marijuana about 20 minutes before he was pulled over for speeding Aug. 30 on Route 250 in Harrison County, Ohio, according to a report released by the county’s sheriff’s office.

Snell, 21, of Westerville, Ohio, initially faced a drug charge after Deputy Nathan Stuckey found 2.74 grams of marijuana in a plastic baggie with a Star Wars logo on it that was in a bag on the passenger seat of the car...

The deputy noticed a strong smell of marijuana during the traffic stop, and Snell initially said he had smoked pot about 20 minutes before the stop.

We seem to have a long history of bringing in running backs who can't put down the hippie lettuce. Bell, Blount, Snell. Not a good track record.

That was some real next level thinking leaving the pot where the police officer would never even think about looking.

I'm sure he thought he was dropping the Jedi mind trick on that overmatched cop.

Those lightweights are going to need to up their game to challenge Bam Morris for the title: https://apnews.com/3a2971d9aa973dc0b79f38a2c759a2e9

And right behind Bam and his six pounds of trunk weed, is Tim Worley saying "hold my beer and blow...I got this!"

Or he initially thought the cloak of invisibility for the baggie had been activated

After being asked if he had any additional marijuana in the vehicle, Snell told Stuckey he did not, but later admitted that he did.

So, the day after the final preseason game he decides to burn and go for a ride... maybe he thought he wasn't making the cut that weekend.

Maybe Conner should start smoking so he doesn't get hurt as much.

I dunno, Snell got hurt on 5 carries, and Le'Veon Bell got injured every year like clockwork

Isnt it legal all over the place? I am willing to bet that at least half the NFL smokes weed at some point for pain management if not recreation. No big deal.

God made weed.” https://www.usatoday.com/story/sport...pot/508746002/

I think it is still in the statute books as an offense in most states (certainly in Ohio) but it is often the case the charges for possession of a small amount are dismissed, as happened with Snell

But now under the CBA Snell will go into the substance abuse program for what I assume is his first offense, which is a big deal for him because I think he is subject to random testing while in the program (for a year?) and sets him up for a suspension if he tests positive again

NFLPA should get that changed in the next CBA but every player knows it is in there for now

A player can smoke to his heart's content, after he passes the annual drug test in training camp, as long as you are not a moron and doing stuff like getting high while speeding with the pot in plain view on the passenger seat - I guess that is simply too hard to give up

    Re: Snell Caught With Marijuana

Whether weed is legal is a different issue. Whether it *should be* legal is a different issue. There are some professions where it's prohibited. If I pop positive on a random drug test, I'm fired because Federal regulations won't allow my employer to keep me. In Snell's case, they're not trying really hard to police it... But getting caught forces the league to take action, which hurts his teammates.

I don't care if he smokes 12 blunts a day, but I *do* care if he gets suspended.

I always use the SeaWorld analogy. They don’t allow their employees to have facial hair. Facial hair is certainly not illegal, but if one chose to work for SeaWorld, they could not sport (the ever so popular) goatee.

As far as getting caught/forcing the league to take action... another analogy. Everyone knows that high school students have alcohol at their parties. Yet, cops do not go around making raids. Even if someone calls the cops for a noisy party, the cops aren’t writing tickets for “minor in possession”; they just send all of the kids home... unless... a little dickhead acts belligerent; then, the cops are forced to take action.

I agree with you, but that doesn't make it a non story. It's still banned by the league and now Snell is in the program and subject to random testing. If he ever tests positive for anything it will be an automatic suspension.

I think one day perhaps weed will be legal in all states and the league will change the rules it, especially for pain management, but as Teegre said, they have the right to make their own rules regardless of the law. And it's probably not very high (pardon the expression) on the NFLPA's list of things to get changed in the next collective bargaining agreement.
