One Steelers Trade Proposal (That Actually Makes Sense)

This, all things considered, is going to be a boring trade proposal.

I know how to right a lede, right?

But that’s how a lot of Kevin Colbert trades, of which there are a surprisingly high number of, go this time of year. Bottom of the 53 player for a small return. That’s just how it goes. At this point, there aren’t many moves to transform your team. Just minor ones to tweak around the edges.

And to be clear, I’m not suggesting the Pittsburgh Steelers should, 100% make this move. But if there was one you want to argue, something that makes sense and could help the team in some small way, this makes as much sense as anything.

So let me get right to the good stuff. This is one proposal that works for both sides. A deal between the Steelers and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Steelers Get: TE Antony Auclair, 2020 6th Round Pick

Buccaneers Get: WR Eli Rogers, 2020 7th Round Pick

This is the only trade proposal Korza made that actually makes legitimate sense...lol. I’d be happy with or without this trade...IF the front office legit thinks that Spencer can contribute as a wideout. If he can’t, then this would be a horrible trade. It was questionable as a WR from what we’ve seen but he’s an explosive player. If Spencer is just a return specialist, trade would be horrible.

Unless Sinclair is just a stone cold killer when it comes to blocking, that is a massive over-pay.

I think Spencer would be great at wr screens alone. Haley would be creaming his pants to coach a player like him.

But if a WR does just that, it's easier for the opponents to defend....Remember Dri Archer?

But at least the steelers have not wasted a 3rd round draft pick on Spencer .... I think Haley had convinced the Steelers to take Dri Archer in the 3rd round ... Classic Haley!

A player like that, the team needs an offensive coach who are good to use players like that in offense and Haley was not good to do that ... I do not think Darren Sproles would have had the same success with Todd Haley that he had with the Saints with Sean Payton.

I would also use Spencer as a deep threat and regular wr routes. Reason I brought up Haley , Spencer is everything that Haley wanted in Archer. Archer just was horrible and would go to the ground when a strong breeze blew.

Steelers attended his Pro Day. He’s a good blocker and I’ve only heard him compared to Fasano.

I like Rogers and have always been a fan. I think he’s got a lot of ABs “shiftiness” in him and would love to see him get the ball more. I think he should be on the roster before Spencer. I also think the Steelers should find room for 7 WRs but that’s just me and a bit out of the ordinary. But if they traded him for Auclair, I don’t think that’s a terrible deal.

Rather see them try to get Brate, but don’t think that Rogers gets that done...especially with his history.

I really think Rogers is on the cut bubble anyway. Ben likes Switzer, who is basically redundant with Rogers. So if we can facilitate a need by trading a guy we were gonna cut anyway, why not?

I’m not sure the Steelers agree. It could just be a personality thing but I’d wager they keep Switzer over Rogers. And there’s a good chance they don’t keep them both.

I think Rogers is a bit more "polished" as a WR but Switz is not far behind, he's got a wiggle factor Rogers doesn't have. He's one rugged little bugger tho. Last year he was hit a few times going across the middle and I didn't think he would get up, but he did and made the catches too. I like them both but if I had to pick one it would be Switz

I like both as well but also my edge goes to Switz. For the fact he is a chain mover with those quick 5 yard slants.

I agree with that. Rogers is a legitimate receiver, Switzer is good for three or four misdirection plays and timing plays a game. As a regular WR running routes, Switzer's pretty marginal.

Everyone kind of forgot about Rogers since he was injured for so long, but when he came back last year, he definitely still had it.

Juju, Washington, Rogers, Switzer, Moncrief, and whichever Diontae was the high draft pick, those are the top 6 WRs unless someone gets injured. The rookie rabble have had a few exciting moments, but I just don't see any landing spots.

Keep Rogers and Switzer or release one and keep Spencer? I’m keeping Rogers and Switzer everyday.

Just my opinion...Switzer is better in the return(KR) game AND a more versatile WR, meaning he can play from the backfield, slot, or outside. Eli is a MUCH better WR than Spencer. Spencer is a better PR than Eli. I keep Switzer and Eli. Keeping Spencer to return punts and be an ok WR makes little sense in this scenario. Trading Eli for a TE opens a roster spot to keep Spencer is the only route for Spencer that makes sense. If one of these 3 WRs has to go I would cut Spencer. Honestly I would keep Horton or Jones over Spencer.

I also thing Eli and Switzer are different type WRs. I don't see them as 'identicle' as most do it seems. Eli is the prototypical 3rd WR/slot WR that runs great routes and has Ben's trust. Switzer also has Ben's trust but is more of a shifty/find the open space rather than on route WR. Both have value as WRs and in the return game.

AS FOR THE THREAD TOPIC...A trade for a 2nd TE is a better idea than not getting a 2nd TE. Trading Eli for that TE depends on the value of that TE. I don't know Auclair. He has a total of 9 receptions in the NFL. Hard to see how he would work out here.
