PITTSBURGH — Ben Roethlisberger expects to lead the Steelers offense onto the field Sunday when Pittsburgh visits the Tennessee Titans in Week 3 of preseason play.
Roethlisberger has yet to play this preseason. He typically doesn’t until Week 3, and hasn’t played any sooner than that since 2015 when the Steelers contested the Hall of Fame game in Canton, Ohio. Roethlisberger played in Pittsburgh’s second preseason game that year.
“This week of practice has felt a little different. Maybe it’s part being back here, but in part knowing I’m going to get to play a little bit," Roethlisberger said, referring to the team’s South Side headquarters. "And so I’ve kind of had a little juice, bolt, whatever you want to call it — kind of gets you going.
"So this week’s been exciting so far, knowing you’re gonna get some reps, get out there with the guys and have some fun.”
Roethlisberger plans to play with a rotation of receivers, he said, as the team plans to rotate the wideout corps in-season too. Pittsburgh has six receivers – JuJu Smith-Schuster, Donte Moncrief, Eli Rogers, Ryan Switzer, James Washington and Diontae Johnson – on the 90-man roster either returning from last season, drafted or carrying NFL experience.
