Bud Dupree Says He’s Not Interested in Contract Extension with Steelers

Steelers defensive end Bud Dupree is entering the final year of his rookie contract in 2019.

But he’s not that interested in signing a long-term extension, he told reporters before the team’s practice on Sunday.

Instead, he’s betting on himself.

“I’m straight. I’d rather just be like this right now,” Dupree said Sunday when asked if he preferred to sign an extension before the season. “For one year, I’m going to go out and do my thing. I’m going to prove.”

Right now Watt is sidelined with a hammy issue. What if...this season, or the start of it for a few games, sees Dupree and Adeniyi at OLB? With Chick spelling both for breathers when needed. Guess Sutton Smith will see some defensive plays then?

Watt being OUT early in the season is the worst case scenario for steelers..I read somewhere that steelers used 3 ILB on the field at the same time in training camp (Barron, Bush and Williams) with an OLB (probably Dupree) with Tuitt, Hargrave and Heyward on the DL.You can have a good pass rush at 4 players even with this lineup.

That's probably what I would do if Watt is OUT and when the opponent has 3 WR at the same time on the field, I put Hilton and take Williams off for a better defense against the pass.

If this is 10 sacks or more,Dupree is going to have a big contract with the steelers or with a another team, since some GM seems to just look at the stats instead of looking at the tape, but if Dupree has 10 sacks and for the most part it's only dong sacks, I hope the steelers will not try to keep Dupree like they did with Json Worilds after the 2013 season when he had 8 sacks in a short time in 2013, but it was almost only dong sacks!

I hope that Dupree will be a impact player in 2019(not only for the sacks,but pressure and things like that) but if his stats are inflated, it will not help the team much except for his future contract!

I wonder if Ola (Alphabet Soup) and Skipper (Tupac) continue to have phenomenal camps and preseasons...at what point does cutting Chickillo (Chick-Filet) become something that gets serious considered by the team?

I know it is super early and these things have a way of sorting themselves out, but something I wonder about...

Agree about that guy being a joke. His stories are very poorly written...just based on the structure, they’re unbearable.

The problem is that Tomlin and especially Butler love way too much Dupree.

The steelers had also been very patient on Jarvis Jones and Jones was a worse player than Dupree is right now .... The only reason Jarvis Jones was benched for good in 2016 was because the steelers were at 4-5 .... It also took a 0-4 start in 2013 for benched Ziggy Hood, but I hope Tomlin will not wait too long if Dupree does not perform well again.
