What will the Steelers do next on Day 2 of the NFL draft?

With the selection of Devin Bush with the No. 10 overall selection in the draft Thursday night, the Steelers addressed their glaring defensive weakness. Even though they traded away their second-round pick to the Broncos as part of the compensation to obtain Bush the Steelers still have two more picks Friday night to fill some other holes on their roster.

And general manager Kevin Colbert is hell bent on using them. Colbert said Thursday night that he would not have made the trade to get Bush unless he kept two picks on Day 2 of the draft.

“There are a lot of good players still available,” Colbert said.

The Steelers own the No. 66 pick and the No. 84 pick – both third-round selections. The No. 66 pick was part of the compensation for the Antonio Brown trade. That trade allowed the Steelers to make the Bush trade.

WR and a player at a position of non-need that plays 10 snaps because the team is set at the position the player plays

Maybe, but what position (and player) would you like the steelers take in day 2 in the players who could be available?

CB and then WR. Would really like to see then give up a few picks to move back into Round 2 and still keep the 83rd pick or whatever it is.

Still plenty of WRs, CBs, FSs, TEs, and still a couple edge guys. How about a Juan Thornhill and Julien Love 3rd round?

Re: What will the Steelers do next on Day 2 of the NFL draft?

TRADING UP (from 66 into R2):

    #66 (260) + R5 (35) = 295 ... Pick #61

    #66 (260) + R4 (50) = 310 ... Pick #59

    #66 (260) + R4 (50) + R5 (35) = 345 ... Pick #56

    #66 (260) + #83 (175) = 435 ... Pick #47

    #66 (260) + #83 (175) + R4 (50) + R5 (35) = 520 ... Pick #38

    TRADING UP FROM PICK #83:

    83 (175) + R5 (35) = 210 ... Pick #76

    83 (175) + R4 (50) = 225 ... Pick #73

    83 (175) + R4 (50) + R5 (35) = 260 ... Pick #66

Re: What will the Steelers do next on Day 2 of the NFL draft?

I truly believe that the Steelers want Chase Winovich. But, how high will they have to trade up to get him?

If they trade up to 56 (from 66), it would cost their R4 & R5 picks.

R2 (56): Chase Winovich, OLB, Michigan

R3 (83): cornerback** from the state of Michigan:
    David Long, CB, Michigan,
    Sean Bunting, CB, Central Mich
    Justin Layne, CB, Michigan St.

**Miles Boykin, WR, Notre Dame (if he lasts)

    R1: Devin White, ILB, Michigan
    R2: Chase Winovich, OLB, Michigan
    R3: cornerback (or, Miles Boykin)

    R6:
    R6:
    R6:
    R7:

    TOTAL PICKS: 7

I would be fine with the Steelers trading back in the second to grab a player they covet. A bonus on drafting Bush fills two positions of need. Barron now can fill the dime backer role that Burnett played last year.

During this process we've had reports of who the Steelers, or Tomlin love. Devin Bush, David Sills and Rock Ya-Sin.

Will be interesting to see if they try to get both tonight.

Theyd probably need to trade up to get RYS. How far do you think they’d need to go to get him?

Sills will be there at 83 (or later).

I love that the Steelers clearly have a plan with this draft and executed round 1 perfectly. If they have a player they want tonight I will support whatever they feel they need to do to make it so. I agree with what Herbie said last night, (Paraphrasing but...)This offseason has pissed the Steelers off, all the talk about the Browns has pissed the Steelers off, questioning the Tomlin/Colbert culture has pissed the Steelers off, missing out on the playoffs has pissed the Steelers off. Teams had best be wary of the Steelers this season.

I know the Steelers really liked S Darnell Savage, who ended up getting picked at #21.

other safeties still available that I like are Juan Thornhill, Taylor Rapp, Nassir Adderley, Deionte Thompson, Chauncey Garnder-Johnson, and Amani Hooker.

I'm not sure. After the cheap deal the Steelers got moving into #10 who knows how tough, or easy it will be to move up. I do know one thing is that the Steelers still have 8 picks. They have more ammo to get a guy if he's falling.

Me personally I'd wait to see if Bunting, or Love is there at #66.

Drafting Love at #66 and then making a little move up in round three to get Miles Boykin would be fantastic.

Love could give Hilton some immediate competition as the starting slot corner.

If the steelers trade up, it'll be with their second pick of the 3rd round I think ...... It would not be a good idea to have only 1 pick today.

Yep agreed. IMO I can see a WR run as well.
