The traded down and traded down, acquiring numerous picks. At one point, they had a staggering 45 players on rookie contracts. They kept the good ones, and simply didn’t re-sign the average ones. Oh, and they routinely cut the ones that didn’t pan out. Repeat... until they had themselves a core group of good players: Garrett, Chubb, Ward, Bitonio, et cetera.
They also signed cap-friendly free agents: Hubbard, Robinson, Landry.
Now... since they’ve found their rookie QB, they started acquiring top-tier free agents: OBJ, Thomas.
I’ve stated before that they’ll play in two of the next four Super Bowls.
