AAF 101: How The League Allocates Players
Welcome to AAF 101, a primer on the Alliance of American Football and what makes it different. This week we’re looking at player allocation or how each team gets it’s players.
Unlike the NFL, the AAF does not have a traditional draft. They instead gather their players based on who doesn’t make NFL rosters. But the process is a little more complicated. Once a players signs a contract with the AAF, the league has an allocation system. It breaks down into three parts:
- College Selection
- Professional Selection
- Open Selection
College Selection
The first step in the allocation process is college selection. Players from select colleges in what the AAF calls each team’s footprint are automatically allocated to that team. The footprint is based on that team’s general location........
