    Ranking the head coaching hires

8 new head coaching hires were made, and in general they were overall poor. Some were good, most were not, I am ranking the head coaching hires from 1st to worst

    1. Vic Fangio Broncos: Fangio did great work with the Bears defense and with the 49ers defense during the Harbaugh era, and deserved a shot as head coach. This stands out as the best head coaching hire. Only drawback is age. Grade: A-.

    2. Freddie Kitchens Browns: Lack of experience is a risk here, but as OC for the Browns, he worked wonders as Baker Mayfield had a great rookie year and the Browns went 5-3 with him as OC. He could have easily gone elsewhere so promoting him to head coach after only 8 games to keep him around is worth the risk. Grade B.

    3. Bruce Arians Bucs: Not a huge fan of the move given the age and status as retread. Plus his teams weren't very good after Carson Palmer sharply declined (despite having lots of talent on those rosters). However, if there was one thing Arians was good at it was developing QBs and he may help Jameis Winston turn a corner. Grade B-

    4. Zac Taylor Bengals: This is where things start to get pretty bad. At this point he last 5 could be 8a, 8b, 8c etc. This isn't quite the disaster that hiring Hue Jackson would have been but it's still bad. He was hired for working under Sean McVay as QB coach for one year. The damning thing about him is he does have experience as OC in the NFL, to the tune of 5 games as Dolphins OC where he averaged 17 points per game. Other than that his most prominent role was as Dolphins QB coach, which didn't exactly pan out. It's clear Mike Brown did very little research on Taylor. Grade F.

    5. Brian Flores Dolphins: The definition of insanity is doing the exact same thing over and over again and expecting shit to change. It is mind-boggling that after over a decade of pretty much 0% success that Bellichick coordinators STILL get hired. This is why Miami is never competing for a division title, they are so incompetent. Grade F

    6. Matt LaFleur Packers: It's quite obvious the Packers did not watch a snap of Titans offensive football before hiring LaFleur. The Titans were one of the least exciting offenses in the NFL. Sure he was OC of the Rams in 2017, but that was with McVay running the show, and it was telling that the Rams got better offensively after he left. Grade F.

    7. Adam Gase Jets: LOL! No wonder why the Jets, (along with the Bills and Dolphins) have not been competing for the division title for nearly a decade. The Jets saw as Gase for 3 years won mostly close games against bad teams while getting blown out most of the time, yet the Jets decided Gase would be a good option to be their man of the future. What a comically bad organization. Grade F.

    8. Kliff Kingsbury Cardinals: The worst hire for 2019 (and that's saying a lot) is made by the Cardinals. During his career as Texas Tech head coach, he had a losing record. That's a troubling sign and it is hard to imagine what the Cardinals were thinking of when they made the hire. Grade F.

I really think in everyone of these cases that the teams hired a coach (or had in mind who they wanted to hire) without doing the proper research or taking the time to interview as many people as necessary. They all seemed very rushed...

    Replacing Flores

Report: Patriots to Hire Ex-Ohio State Defensive Coordinator Greg Schiano

Greg Schiano will be the New England Patriots' new defensive coordinator, reportsJim McBride of the Boston Globe.
Last month, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported that Schiano was exploring his NFL opportunities, but a top defensive role in New England was a likely choice. Patriots linebackers coach Brian Flores is poised to become the Miami Dolphins next head coach.

That’s a good move by the Patriots.

Another good DC move going mostly unnoticed is Dennis Allen extended for 3 more years by the Saints. Finally got the Rob Ryan stink off that defense. Hard to believe how bad to how good they got. A great example of trusting the process of getting the right players to run your scheme and allowing guys to do what they do well. Ala TP43.

Bruce Arians to the Buccaneers: A
This one is also simple. Bruce Arians has been one of the league's best head coaches ever since he finally got the opportunity to lead a team after a long career as an offensive coordinator. In relief of Chuck Pagano with the Colts in 2012, he went 9-3. With the Cardinals from 2013-17, he went 49-30-1. The first year without him, the Cardinals went 3-13.

A 1-2 playoff record over 5 seasons makes you one of the league's best head coaches ever. Got it.

He is not one of the best coach ever, but still one of the best coach in the NFL...Just look at his 2017 season with Gabbert and Stanton as QB for most of the year.
