Mike Tomlin's contract expires after the 19 season. The Steelers as a matter of practice always extend the Head coaches contract at some point between the end of the previous season and the start of the following preseason. There has only been one exception. The Steelers allowed Bill Cowher to go into and coach the 06 season on the last year of his contract. Apparently there were negotiations. But Cowher wanted rock star money, and Rooney thought he was owed loyalty for sticking with Cowher through 3 straight non playoff seasons (98-00) and offered him a rich extension but wasn't going to make him a top 3 paid coach. ( couple coaches had just been awarded ridiculous money) Anyway if they don't agree to an extension you will know Tomlin will be coaching next season with his job on the line.
