Question about how the ball is spotted ....

In the Chargers / Ravens game, while at the goal line, the Chargers' player "rolled" into the end zone but it was ruled down at the goal line. But on the next play, the ball should have been literally at the one inch line but was out near the one yard line.

On that same drive, the runner dove to the end zone but his forearm was down with the nose of the ball literally sniffing the chalk on the goal line, but again on the next play, the ball was out more towards the one yard line.

How does that work? Is it the need for a "neutral zone"?

It was bad spot by the refs, Romo said as much at the time.

Should have been a TD. If not it should have been on the 1 inch line. Refs fucked up once again.

LOL, I said the same exact thing. How the hell could they put it all the way back at the one? It literally should have almost been touching the goal line. It just shows you how bad these crews are. I mean there was a guy literally standing there staring at the ball and he missed the first TD call. I'm just glad they didn't call Gordon's a fumble and a Ravens TD on the return. That would have meant their f'd up call on Watt would have literally been a 14 point swing.

    Three fuck ups, really.

    1. Derek Watt should have had a TD.
    2. It should have been placed at the one-inch line.
    3. That was a fumble.

I truly feel that they purposely got #3 wrong (they had to reeeeally look to figure out a reason) to make up for #1 (and to a degree, for #2).

The way that the refs could spin it to Harbaugh was “Hey, on the field, we called it a TD for the Chargers, but we took that back... and now, it is fourth down.” Surprisingly, Harbaugh did not throw a hissy fit (which he does about everything), because, for once, he had a legitimate reason to be livid.

    PROFESSIONAL FULL TIME REFEREES!

Can we all agree that it absolutely unbelievable that a major pro sports league attempts to have guys legislate the game, physics, and human intention on a part time basis? Also, put a damn chip in the ball already. Make TDs and spotting technology aided. Sure the tech may break, but then you go back to the old way.

Also, how in the world does the NFL not have an RD lab and team? So employ like 90 guys to be a "team". They are essentially in perpetual training camp/scrimmage mode. Use them to lab test new technologies and rules as well as officials.

But, hey, its all about the money right? Why bother improving the product!

I'm pretty sure most refs were full time this season, they didn't look any better.

It amazes me with the NFL money they do nothing to actually try and improve the game
