I think I would have to seriously consider Montez Sweat or even Burns if availability were flipped... just based on need/value. Byron Murphy would be my next up.

It depends on Sweat's medical. If it isn't too bad, I'm going with Sweat, if it is too serious, I take Hockenson. Barring medical issues, I think Sweat ends up being a dynamic pass rusher, certainly infinitely better than Dupree

I like this one except for the second TE.

    TDN Predictive Board

    • 20 Devin Bush Jr. LB Michigan - surprised when he falls, but I don't look a gift horse in the mouth.

52 Trayvon Mullen CB Clemson - Need more talent at corner and take a roll of the dice on a guy with the size but not always the want to

66 Kelvin Harmon WR NC State - Big WR, because I'm gonna build the most physical WR corps in the league.

83 Amani Hooker S Iowa - Swiss Army knife for the defensive backfield and sub-packages. Aligns with Barron and Marcus Allen to give team several 2nd/3rd level defenders that can run and hit.

122 Myles Gaskin RB Washington - Why not? Missed on the kid from Memphis, so I get another RB that can be used to run and catch. James White impact in the future?

141 David Long LB West Virginia - Another athletic LB prospect. Be nice to actually have back-ups that can play in the NFL.

175 Jalen Hurd WR Baylor - Another monster for the WR room. Raw and inexperienced, but look at the size of this dude and how well he moves.

192 Chris Slayton IDL Syracuse - Why not? Massive man in the middle. Not tied to the pick. Feel free to sub your own mountain of a person here.

207 Sheldrick Redwine S Miami - Another versatile DB. Tired of guys like Dangerfield having a job. May not be a great player, but Redwine seems to be a legit option on defense.

219 Shareef Miller EDGE Penn State - Needed something at this position and this dude was still there.

Starting to think the same way. He seems like a guy that everyone will talk about getting drafted in Round 3-5 and he will go early in Round 2.

If you believe he is the player needed at ILB, what’s wrong with getting him at 20? According to the “experts” that would mean 4-5 ILBs have already been selected. The Steelers MUST upgrade that position. If he’s the man to do it, take him. Nobody will care what round if he works out.

Everybody has Murphy going to Pittsburgh...sometimes with Williams and Bush still on the board. I’m not feeling Murphy for some reason...not sure how to explain it but just a gut thing maybe? Give me some big positives on Murphy...

he is a ballhawk with good instincts , pretty much exactly what the Steelers defensive secondary is short of ....

and in the Steeler DB mold he is strong in run support ...

7 interceptions - 20 pass breakups in just 87 career targets

If the Steelers go Byron Murphy at 20 and Juan Thornhill at 52, then get Blake Cashman at 66, I could be very happy heading into Saturday's rounds.

the safety that the Steelers have shown a lot of interest in is FS Darnell Savage Jr. from Maryland. I'm pretty sure he wouldn't make it past #52 if he's still available then.

I'm just hoping they don't pull a Terrell Edmunds and take him in the first round.

Savage is, well, savage. He reminds me of Bob Sanders: small but packs a wallop.

    Re: mock draft sims

Darnell Savage/Juan Thornhill both meet the athletic criteria for a first round reach. Greedy, Baker, or Murphy at CB and Thornhill or Savage at safety is a pretty good start to this draft IMO. And they make sense from the standpoint that both Haden and Davis are in their contract year and the Steelers have zero negotiating leverage today. I know you guys aren't as high on Mack Wilson and Blake Cashman as I am but if we get either one of them in the 3rd round(prefer Cashman) I would call that a steal. Also, what are the chances the Steelers add a Darrell Henderson/Justice Hill type RB, OR do they stay with the bigger LJ Scott type?

    What if???
    Rd1 Greedy/Murphy/Baker
    Rd2 Savage/Thornhill
    Rd3a Wilson/Cashman
    Rd3b Polite/Banogu/Miller

I think you could go crazy with offensive side picks on day 3 with that start to the draft.

could even add in Rapp / Thompson/ Abram in that round 2 so many good safeties in this draft its hard to say where teams value them and different teams may have them all different its really close and so many of them

question is does that devalue them and perhaps rd 3 you can nab one you have rated the equal of one that went high round 2 ? perhaps

or is there a run on them early once they start coming off the board ?

we shall find out soon enough

Savage is creeping closer & closer to R1. I had hoped for him at 52, but that appears unlikely. He might be a reach at 20, but maybe not. If the do indeed go S at 20, keep an eye on Johnathan Abram; the kid plays with so much intensity. Also, the Steelers met with Chauncey Gardner-Johnson.

I think the “value” for ILB is in R3. I’d be fine with Mack Wilson there. Likewise, I’d also be very happy with David Long in R3.

Adding Irv Smith Jr, AJ Brown, DHen, and Renfrow? Dayum, that's a pretty good offensive rookie class, IMO. Devin White and Amani Hooker also DAYUM! If Jamel Dean could stay healthy he may have been a day 2 prospect.

Might as well, Bens clock is ticking.
