Would any of these guys make a better DC than Butler? (and don't say Marvin because I'll back slap ya )

From the looks of this so far, if Tomlin were to be fired (which he's not going to be), he's be out of work for about 5 minutes.

Bowles, Joseph or Gregg Williams? I think I’d take any one of those three.

I hope the Steelers make the decision quickly so we have a chance at the right person.

Dirk Koetter fires in Tampa. That makes it 8 teams...1/4 of the league...

Falcons cleaned out their top assistants - if the Steelers fire Butler they should do it now since a lot of staffs are going to be in the market for DCs

Falcons fired offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian, defensive coordinator Marquand Manuel and special teams coordinator Keith Armstrong on Monday, the team announced.

Like AJRII may be with Tomlin, Dan Quinn is looking at one more year to get it right with a QB the team has sunk big $$$ into before owner Arthur Blank fires him

Re: The Coaching Carousel Has Begun

Ranking the open NFL head coaching jobs, from best to worst

    1. Green Bay Packers

    2. Cleveland Browns
Top candidates: Former Packers Coach Mike McCarthy, Josh McDaniels, Rams quarterback coach Zac Taylor, Ravens Coach John Harbaugh (in a trade), former Cardinals Coach Bruce Arians.

    3. New York Jets

    4. Denver Broncos
Top candidates: John Harbaugh (in a trade), Matt LaFleur, Eric Bieniemy, Zac Taylor, former Vikings offensive coordinator John DeFilippo, Steelers offensive coordinator Mike Munchak
John Harbaugh makes the most sense here, but it would have to happen if Harbaugh wants out of Baltimore and John Elway can work out a trade. Harbaugh would be the perfect fit in Denver. He can hire Gary Kubiak as the offensive coordinator and give Elway what he wants as an overall leader of the team. It might cost a second-round choice, but the trade would be worth it — but Baltimore would have to be willing to go for the trade, following the team’s run to the playoffs.

    5. Tampa Bay Buccaneers

    6. Arizona Cardinals

    7. Miami Dolphins

    8. Cincinnati Bengals
Top candidates: Former Broncos Coach Vance Joseph, Browns offensive coordinator Freddie Kitchens, Kris Richard, Bears defensive coordinator Vic Fangio, Jim Schwartz, Mike Munchak

    https://www.washingtonpost.com/sport...=.9c3945bd3cfd

There are a number of reports Harbaugh is not locked in to staying with the Ravens. They may have misplayed not extending Harbaugh until he had maximum leverage for a break the bank contract as they did with Flacco.

Maybe try a college coach. Need to go back to old time Steeler football style. Kick ass defense.

Sucks that Marvin was let go. But hopefully, they hire Hue

Vance Joseph coordinated a bottom 5 defense for 1 year in Miami. Out of those 3 Bowles would be the top choice

Bowles and Williams would be definite upgrades over Butler.

Good news out of the AFC North front for head coaches
Bengals: Bengals are requesting an interview with Josh McTrianwreck
Browns: Peyton Manning is recommending Jimmy Haslam hire Adam Gase (the recently fired Dolphins head coach) for Browns head coach.

    Make both happen please

Why would any coach take the AZ Cards job? The last coach was a one and done with, well, that team. How much rope is the next coach going to get? Coach Wilks should have gotten a second year. The GM should have been the guy fired.

The Cardinals had a FHOF WR, an all-pro RB, a pro bowl pas rusher, and an all-pro CB. They were around .500 the last 2 seasons with mediocre QB play from Carson Palmer. That team had enough pieces not to finish with the worst record in the NFL and Wilks did a horrible job. They were right to fire him

Appears that whoever takes the Denver job is going to have to accept that Kubiak will run the offense, just as anyone who interviewed to replace Cowher was told by the Rooneys that LeBeau was staying and would run the defense

As they wait to fill their head-coaching vacancy, the Denver Broncos have blocked other teams from trying to hire away former head coach Gary Kubiak as an offensive coordinator, league sources told ESPN.

Also, Kingsbury to Arizona. Its looking Denver or Bust for Munchak.

Packers apparently hired LaFleur because he hung around on the sidelines with Shanahan and McVay in the pros. Cardinals apparently hired Kingsbury because he hung around on the sidelines with Baker Mayfield and Patrick Mahomes at Texas Tech.

Maybe Kingsbury can coach up Josh Rosen but the question is whether Kingsbury coached up Mayfield & Mahomes or lucked into having a gifted high QBs who lit up the scoreboard with Kingsbury's offense.

Arians in as HC of Buccaneers and he's bring Bowles in as DC. lol. Steelers keeping Butler and Smith will be the end of Tomlin in Pittsburgh. Serves him right.

Maybe the Steelers had to wait until the college championship was played before they could speak with a DC?

Maybe potential replacements for Butler see over half that defense is journeymen, that Tomlin is heavily involved, and do not see coaching for the Steelers to be a dream come true. Instead they see better alternatives than having to look for another job after 2019 when their own reputation has taken a hit for not being able to improve the performance of that crew.

Apparently Freddie Kitchens gets the Browns HC opening.

Gregg Williams let go - will be a good DC for someone

Full house cleaning this time next year if the results are the same, and they likely will be.

Butler’s contract is up next season so it makes it easy to get rid of him. Tomlin is 2020, I believe. Not sure when asshole’s contract is up.

Bowles apparently not a sure thing yet (Bears still have a shot), but Arians is bringing Byron Leftwich. So, if Bowles does indeed join the band is back together.
