So its Tomlin fault when they give games away, but when they win he's at fault because they didn't win by enough. I admit I went overboard on Ben last week but some of you are impossible to please. Enjoy the win, only one team gets to win the SB anyways. You cant win the SB if your not in the playoffs. Steelers have been consistently in.

Its a game of inches, Vance non TD because foot out by 3 inches, JUJU's catch ripped away by defender on last drive. Tomlin has no control of that.
    Exactly!!!!!

If McDonald gets his foot inbounds, there’s no missed FG by Boz... and we’re up by 11.

People wanted Tomlin to be aggressive. So, they throw it into the end zone on third-&-game. If JuJu pulls that down, it’s game over.

He and Rogers. If they play like that and continue to grow, that’s a nice, nice, nice receiving group! I really think given the opportunity and if he can stay healthy that Rogers could be an Emmanuel Sanders type player.

Showed me that many on this board were right and I was overly worried and wrong about Washington. Several times tonight I saw why the team likes the kid so much. Not only the catches, but ran solid routes on many other occasions.

Rogers might be key. Pushes JuJu outside. Allows Washington to run as the 4th guy and Switzer slides to “Swiss army knife”.

He makes some awful calls at times and the coaching today just wasn’t good in my opinion. The OC and more so DC aren’t great. Butler is a disaster. The offense (other than the first drive) looked very sloppy in the pass game and a week in week out they continue to run short button hook routes that are covered. I mean how many plays are actually run the way they are diagramed? The 3rd & 9 play was, again, a total bust but Samuels got loose and Ben found him. They are a better team when the run game is going and they can street ball the pass game. Ben makes great throws, receivers make a great catch...more or less, that’s the offense. Defense is a sieve unless they get pressure in before the QB can throw...how many receivers have we seen wide open in the last three weeks and it continued today. If not for a great play by Haden, could be a totally different outcome.

Danny Smith just sucks all around.

Hopefully this is a launching point for everyone involved on this team to make a serious run, but no one should have the confidence that this could be seriously done.

Would you be surprised if they beat the Saints next week and then lost to the Bengals? Or even lost to the Saints and Bengals? I mean maybe this was the Steelers Super Bowl?

BTW - I was also one of the few who predicted they’d win this game.
. I get it, we are always looking for reasons why a loss, or D leaking like a sieve. I literally blamed Ben for not coming in earlier last week. But this week we won a type of game where we lost against Denver and Chargers. So I cant be pissed at anything. Ok I get Haydens pic turned it around but after first drive in first half they were shut down. But Ben threw 2 pics while Steelers driving. Boz missed a chipshot. I agree this game shouldn't have been this close, I just dont see where Tomlin screwed up. Ill take Bens pics due to him scrambling and making some great plays. I think they mixed it up with empty sets well and the running game was a huge success. Who gets credit for that. You can blame penalties on Pats for them losing, but Steelers penalties or lack of agains Chargers worse IMO. Over the season they even out, except for last year on J james so called drop. Ill stop rambling , had too many old fashions, but remember Tomlin was coaching against arguable the best coach ever, if you discount the cheating. I wouldn't be surprised if they win next week and lose to Bengals, its been that type of year. Ive said it before they can beat anyone but lose to anyone. I so see Chargers beating the Ravens on Saturday so we will be playing with house money on Sunday. Thats my hope anyways.

When Conner gets healthy I think the 1-2 punch with him and Samuels will be a good one. Samuels impressed me with his work as a WR, he's probably better than Bell split out wide.

I agree, good list of gameballs, although not sure Eli.

I also agree the coaching is bad. NFL countdown this am pointed out that the Steelers appear to have abandoned the run game since week 12. They also pointed out that the last 2 teams prior to the STeelers to defeat the Pats ran the football for approx. 200 yards per game. Boomer Esiason pointed out the Steelers success in gaining 82 yards in the first half, but on limited carries and they should run the football in the 2nd.

But what happened?? A lot more pass heavy offense and seemingly routes designed for 40 yard gains on 2nd and 9, or 1st and goal from the 4 and not getting any points. Fichtner is terrible at feeling when something like the run game is working for him and exploiting an advantage with the opposing defense.

Yes, Washington's ability to compete and catch 50-50 balls, his strong hands in making the catch and also that RB build he has which allows him to break tackles were all on display. He also had 2 steps on one deep pass, but Ben overthrew him if you recall that. If he had a radio show, he could discuss Ben not connecting on that pass, which Washington did his job.

Kudos to you for owning up your worries. I will admit that I was wrong also, as I thought by week 8 he would be firmly established as the #3WR, which hasn't happened.

If anything, Samuels deserves the game ball for sitting on the Pats' bench after making a 1st down without getting flagged lmao. I was laughing so bad when that happened but honestly was expecting a ref to throw a flag for that

I disagree with this. He hit a lot of wide open guys and he had his receivers drop balls that hit them in the chest many times. He's never been mobile and he finally made one bad decision (Haden INT) but Ben makes 1-3 of them a game and has for years.

Good points. ALso I figure that I rant and rave on here enough that I should own it.

What I found the most encouraging with that overthrow is that Washington and Ben "read" the same thing. Ben just overthrew him. But both guys were thinking the same way. Earlier in the year, the ball would go outside while Washington went inside or Washington would break the route off while Ben wanted it to continue vertical, etc. Encouraging.

Also, how he ripped that ball down on the big pass play was very heartening to see. At his size/speed that will have to be his "go to" move. Washington will be able to get NFL open on most DBs, but he won't be running 5 steps free and just settle under deep balls. He is going to have be the master of the contested catch.

Yes and that is what most said of him coming out of college. Goes up and gets the football on deep routes very well. I saw the Chris Chambers comparison a few times for you Badger fans out there. Below is Mike Mayock eval.

    60. James Washington, WR, Pittsburgh Steelers

What this young man is is a vertical finisher. He gets on top, stacks you and he's got as good ball skills on the deep ball as any player I've seen in college football recently. He's got the arm length of a 6-foot-6 guy. I think he's got a little bit of tightness in intermediate routes.

Seems pretty spot on. So maybe like Chris Chambers as a floor and a slightly bigger Steve Smith as a ceiling?

Your right! I just looked it up for the first time ever -- when the heck did Chambers manage to do that? I remember him dropping as many as he caught and being hurt all the time!

What a game from Samuels and, Hayden I'll take the win. Bos made a kick when it matters the most. I totally agree with Fan76 the Steelers should have won this game 10-17 points. Makes no sense to lose to the Raiders then beat the Pats plus holding them to 10 points who saw that coming?
