Interesting Take on the RCB Woes

    https://www.behindthesteelcurtain.co...burns-nfl-news

"It is simple, start Cam Sutton outside and slide Sensabaugh inside until Hilton is ready to come back. If Hilton has a significant injury and has to miss the rest of the season, please go and sign a free agent who can play outside or slot. Delvin Breaux is still available. So is David Amerson and Quenton Rollins. Are these guys any good? No, but they are all better than Coty Sensabaugh. Brian Allen is better than Coty Sensabaugh, so if you want to bring him off the practice squad, do that too. But for now, start Sutton outside. The film does not lie."

Strong take, but article appears to back it up with film and breakdowns. Argues that Burns has all the physical tools but no technique and Sensabaugh has no awareness. Sutton seems to display decent technique and good awareness that cover up his lesser physical traits than say Burns or some other SPARQ guy.

I think Dangerfield and Sensabaugh are wastes of roster spots. I would much rather bring Allen up, let Marcus Allen get a hat, and bring in one of the guys the author lists for a look see.

Is Hilton’s injury expected to be serious? I didn’t realize that.

Maybe bring back Cockrell and Blake?

I had a complex elbow dislocation in college and was out close to 8 weeks.

“I am all right. A little soreness,” said Hilton. “I was in a sling yesterday. I feel all right. I still have a couple of days. I am going to be doing all I can treatment wise to get back out there Sunday.”

I agree with him in general. I would prefer to see Sutton and let Burns continue to work on his technique.

I also believe that Brian Allen is a better player than Sensabaugh. I said it when they released Allen.

The other thing is that both Sutton and Allen are young. They are going to get better at their craft.

Burns can still improve, but Sensabaugh is basically a finished product. He is what he is.

I would take my chances with Sutton and Allen.

    All of that.

Dangerfield, Sensabaugh, and to a lesser extent Berhe (I will grant him a ST exemption) are total wastes of a roster spot.

Sensabaugh is not good. Unless he is only asked to play zone in the slot and then he is adequate at best. Why not hand his roster spot over to someone who could get better? I would rather give all Sensabaugh's snaps to Brian Allen, Sutton, or even a guy like Quentin Rollins, and suffer through poor play/mistakes with a potential pay-off of a vastly improved young player at season's end. Sensabaugh gives you almost as much bad play with ZERO chance of a pay-out at the end. What's the point?

Dangerfield can't even crack the rotation in the secondary. Seriously? If you can't contribute something amongst this collection of misfit toys, then you have no realistic path to ever playing meaningful defensive snaps in the NFL. So, next. There has to be some safety prospect out there who is just bagging groceries hoping to get a shot. Take a risk and see if he can develop.

I also don't get the Dangerfield love, he's here because of special teams but Imo Brian Allen was more impressive in that area during he preseason.

On the RCB spot, Hope Sutton gets a fair shot Sunday night. The whole 17' draft class has been wonderful so far, let the magic continue.

    Update:

But I'm still rooting for Artie even though he isn't playing well, the guy has the talent to play in the NFL. I think he truly needs a game where he's just getting mental reps from the sidelines.

IMO, Sutton is better than Burns or Sensabaugh in his technique, footwork and ability to cover. He just doesn't have the height and arm length. I think he should get a shot of Hilton is healthy enough to play slot, but if not then Sutton needs to play the Slot CB. Put Sensabaugh back there and let him have some Safety help more often than Haden.
