NFL opener between Eagles, Falcons nets lowest TV ratings in 10 years

    The trend continues.

The weather-delayed kickoff of NFL season drew a 13.4 overnight TV rating, according to NBC, the league's lowest rating in 10 years for a season-opener.

The game between the Super Bowl-champion Philadelphia Eagles and Atlanta Falcons was delayed about a half hour because of severe weather around Philadelphia.

NBC did catch a bad break with the weather delay but not good news. I was not paying close attention but recall NBC did not run commercials at the 4th quarter two minute warning to get the damn game over - do not recall ever seeing that before

Will be interesting to see how ratings go this weekend - Packers at Bears is a major star (Rodgers) playing against a major TV market where enthusiasm for the Bears is high - lower ratings there compared to 2017 Sunday night opener will not be good news for Goodell, although the excuse will be 2017 Sunday night opener was ratings magnet Cowboys versus the biggest TV market (Giants)

More signs that Thursday Night Football is a hell of a dumb idea.

From what I heard it was a sloppy boring game to add on to the dumb TNF schedule.

I watched a quarter and a half and to that point the game sucked.

I like the concept of Super Bowl champ getting the stage to itself with the home opener since neither team is playing on 4 days rest - I do not like the first two weeks of the regular season having the quality of play that used to be seen in weeks 3 and 4 of the exhibition season as the starters actually play

Absolutely. The real NFL season doesn't start until week 5.

I do not see how that will ever change back. Your top players are simply too important to risk playing in the preseason.

Yes, but if you start 1-3 or 0-4, your season is almost over.

The 0-4 start by the Chargers last year, cost them a playoffs spot ...

That's the thing. You may play sloppily, but you better win sloppily.
