Is Damoun Patterson the Steelers next Antonio Brown or the next Terrell Watson?

If there is any at all, the fun of the preseason is defined by an unheralded new face doing something unexpected.

The star players, typically, don’t play. And everyone knows to have their eyes on the first-round pick – or, in some cases (like the Steelers this year) the highly-regarded rookie quarterback .

But when an undrafted or lower-round draft pick makes you notice him? Therein lies the value of the preseason from a fan’s perspective.

So after the Pittsburgh Steelers’ 31-14 preseason-opening victory against the Philadelphia Eagles on Thursday , much of the chatter surrounded a pair of undrafted rookies from smaller Ohio college programs: Youngstown State receiver Damoun Patterson and Toledo linebacker Olasunkanmi “Ola” Adeniyi............

Wow...one game and this "comparison" hits the papers?? lol...

Shouldn't be in the same sentence with AB at this stage. AB is a little special...no?

The headline is supposed to grab attention and it looks like the writer hooked you in. The actual article is pretty benign.

Of course everybody likes the underdog story. He has a chance to stick if he tackles on ST, as that is the only real value of DHB. I liked the tackling and effort of James Washington too on Special Teams. Love to see a 2nd round rookie tackling a punt returner and not resting on his draft position.

I still think Patterson is the next Terrell Watson

I didn't read the article...lol. So maybe it actually did the opposite of hooking me in. I thought it was farfetched from the title.

Too funny, I guess you only read the first question of the headline and then bailed after thinking it was a piece about an AB comparison.

I've been following his highlights, and he's not a one- trick pony. He can do circus catches, combat catches, and blow the top off of coverage. OTOH, I haven't seen him running with a high motor when the ball isn't coming to him. I have yet to see how well he does at run blocking, which is important in the Pittsburgh offense. He looks like a really good receiver and the reports from Latrobe support that... but what can he do beyond that?

That's exactly what I did. The fact that someone would take a rookie (after one decent preseason game...a week one preseason game) and suggest that there may be a comprison to AB is just silly to me. Turned me right off...

    Especially an undrafted rookie.

I think if he turned out to be an OK receiver like Martavis Bryant, or the Eric Deckers and Emmanuel Sanderses of the world it would be a great success too. Making a 53-man roster for undrafted rookies is difficult, but staying for several years is basically a jackpot win.

The level of AB is something even first-rounders rarely achieve. (Which, in part may have to do with the fact thas it's difficult for a receiver to shine if you have a bad QB.)
