He sounds like someone who has been humbled and realized they were heading in the wrong direction. Here's hoping this is real and it lasts. While I could not have cared less about Johnny football, I might be able to root for John Manziel, spring league QB trying to do things right.
I don't know about the rooting! Sounds like he has taken some solid steps forward and I think he'll get another shot at the NFL at some point. I wish him well.

You do realize that spoiled punk is now three years removed from the NFL, sober, married, diagnosed and treated for Bi-polar disorder, and is now trying to get his life back together. I agree with you that the Young, brash Manziel was exactly that (while also probably self-medicating). On the other hand, I also think it is okay to root for comeback stories where people realize what they've become and turn their life around.

I sure know I wouldn't want to be branded for life for some of the decisions I made at 22, 23, 24 years old.

What truly made that scene was June Cleaver (Barbara Billingsley) talking Jive and throwing attitude at the end. "Jive-assed dude don't got no brains anyhow!" Read an interview with her where she said she and the two gentlemen when out for lunch to get to know each other and talk over the scene. The three of them ended up writing the scene themselves basically, and then the two men taught Barbara how to talk that way for the scene. She seemed to have really enjoyed the role and the camaraderie with the men.

Absolutely!!! Of all of the people in the world, the person you’d least expect to speak Jive would be June Cleaver.

For his sake I hope it works. Some people do learn from past mistakes.

Having said that,if he ever makes it back to the NFL, I hope he always sucks against us.
