Tomlin & Colbert both at OHIO ST. pro day

Tomlin and Colbert were BOTH at Ohio State’s pro day.

This is important, because when they both go to a pro day, it usually means that they are drafting someone from that school. There are a half dozen potential draft picks from that school, but you have to figure Sam Hubbard (OLB) and Jerome Baker (ILB) will be their focus. The dark horse would be Billy Price (OG/C).

More importanly, Stanford’s pro day is also today... and neither went to watch Justin Reid.

"If the Steelers wanted to wait until the second round, that’s where Baker could land. He’s a typically Ohio State linebacker, fast and smart. His film doesn’t quite stand up to Evans or even Vander Esche but in the right system, he can be just as effective."

So Reid as a round 1 possibility isn't that likely, still could happen but goes against their past drafts.

Hubbard is a good prospect but can he drop into coverage?. Baker is definitely a possible 2nd/3rd round pick.

Don't they always go to OSU, just based on proximity? That would explain why they didn't make the trip to Stanford... no money left in the travel budget.

It's gotta be for Baker, imo. Denzel Ward will be out of our reach by most accounts.

Vince Williams and Jon Bostic are both two down run stoppers, I don't think we need another one like Hubbard but a fast rangy LB like Baker who is good in pass coverage is definitely one of our top needs.

Jessie Bates round one, Jerome Baker round 2?

Continue to add killer B's but on the defense.

If they get a decent safety, either in free agency or in the draft, Burnett could be an option to take that coverage spot.

Believe he is a 2-down LB in the VW98 mold. Worley was one of the leaders on the OSU defense, good tackler. He would be a solid add in the 7th.

I'm sure he could contribute on Special teams which is always valuable for late rounders.

We need to think about a C too because when Ben goes so does Pouncey.

I do like Baker in round 3 or 5. He could be good nickel back or special teams guy. Kid has a lot to learn. Maybe a 4-3 OLB type.

There are not many guys like Jerome Baker in this draft. Guys that can play sideline to sideline, attack the pocket, and that are very willing tacklers all in one player. I would put a second round grade on Baker. I can even see AZ State's Christian Sam, or Memphis' Genard Avery going in the 2nd all based on potential to produce on the field day 1. Roquan Smith, Rashaan Evans, Tremaine Edmunds, and Leighton Vander Esch all have the highest probability of being the Steeler's first round pick, IMO. Still a lot of things can happen in FA to change the mood, but that's how I see things today. I hope we "load up" with LBs this draft. I still want that true pass rushing edge guy even though that specialty seems to be getting 'edged out' by more hybrid guys. What we don't need is more liability in the run game. The biggest problem is finding the right fit for the Steelers player-wise. We all know the positions of need, it's finding that right fit as a player that is more important. That's why I am and will probably always be best player on the board for round 1. Try to get that next Madden cover candidate. Who are some of the players that would make you the happiest on day 1?

    R5: Ja’Von Rolland-Jones, OLB, Arkansas St.

He’s sort of like Carl Lawson or Elvis Dumervil: a sack specialist. At first, he’d only play on third downs, because he’s only a pass-rusher... but, he did it better than anyone else ever has (40 career sacks to lead the FBS All-Time list).

The second play alone puts him on my radar this draft.

Awesome. Thanks for adding this name.

How is Bates in round 1 a "slim chance"?

He checks off a lot of boxes and Tomlin had dinner with him which history shows is a indication he's in the conversation to be the pick in round 1.
