    Will history repeat?

2011: Steelers lose a shocker to Tim Tebow. Bruce Arians is fired. Lebeau is kept even though his defense failed against a qb who simply can't throw.

2017: Steelers lose a shocker at home to Blake Bortles. People calling for Haley's head even though the Lebeau disciple failed.

    What happens now?

Hopefully, Butler and Haley are both shown the door, which is also what should have happened after the Tebow debacle. Instead, LeBeau got 3 more years.

I can't see that at all.

The difference between now and 2012 are the players and where they're at in their career. That was the last season of the SB run team with old players that shouldn't have been kept that season (and their running out of gas at the end proved it). Currently, except for a QB, who actually played his best playoff game in his career, we have all young and middle-of-their-career players. In 2012, we had a patchwork OL still. Now, we have an OL that is one of the better ones of the NFL.

I see no reason for us to go 9-7 next year.

Depends on if Ben comes back or not (and if it takes him 9 games to get going again). If we have to go with Landry Jones, 9-7 is very much a possibility...

Ben's coming back. I have no doubt after the things he's saying post game. He told AB in the locker room "We'll get there".

I really don't get why people thought LeBeau should have been gone after 2011. The Steelers still had one of the best defenses in 2011 and the defense bailed out Arians' offense on numerous occasions

Probably, but it's still pretty funny, IMO.

The defense from 2009 onward was as much of a mirage as this year's edition was. If Rodgers' receivers had better hands, they would have dropped 50+ on the defense in that Super Bowl.

And it was the offense, with its 2nd-ranked-in-the-league average TOP of 32:33 in 2011 that masked what a mirage that defense really was.

As I stated elsewhere, this game feels more like the end of 2004...

    Absolutely correct.

Hmm. Maybe. The problem is that the team the next year really wasn't as good as it was in 2004. It's just that we hit a hot streak with a great second-year QB. This team has a tremendous load of talent.

Yeah, the 21st ranked scoring offense which was held to 17 points or less 7 times and did not score an offensive TD on the road in the 4th quarter the entire regular season was definitely the stronger unit compared to the NFL's no. 1 scoring defense. Also the 2010 and 2011 defenses which both ranked no. 1 in scoring defenses were significantly better than this defense. The 2017 defense surrendered 23 points or more 6 times compared to the 2010 and 2011 which surrendered that mark a combined 3 times. Plus Arians' playcalling was just as horrendous for 5 years as Haley's and the stupid crap Haley did was evident with Arians. If anything, the Arians' firing was overdue by at least 2 years

In 4 games in 2011, the Steelers were held to 17 points or fewer and won. In 4 games in 2011, the Steelers entered the 4th quarter up by 7 points or less and did not score a 4th quarter point and still won

    Looks like history has repeated.

Haley is gone, to mostly everyone's rejoicing.

However, Butler appears to be staying for some reason. 45 points at home to Blake Bortles. Guess the FO is giving him one more year.

    Re: Will history repeat?

I see 'HISTORY REPEAT' to answer question. So far they haven't made any changes in the defensive coaching so why would you expect the defense any better ? I've said for year's that the defense sucked, pass rushing sucked, secondary suched. This team just can't compete with the likes of a team like the cheater's, and at times has trouble with lesser teams/bottom feeder's. Maybe another Division Championship, unless the Rats and/or Bungholes improve. Sure, they luck out here/there and have a good game...but what the hell is Porter, Lane and Butler bringing to the table ? ( Everything stays the same year after year- why expect different results?)
