1. GOING BIGGER?
The Steelers' most common “base” offense involves a running back, a tight end and three wide receivers (commonly referred to as “11 personnel”). On the most basic of playcall situations (first-and-10), that hasn't been too productive. But when the Steelers go big, the results have been better — particularly relative to the rest of the NFL.

The Steelers rank 26th in average yards gained on first-and-10 when they are in 11 personnel (4.79 yards), according to the league's statistical service.

But with two tight ends on the field on first-and-10, the Steelers are averaging 6.29 yards per play. They rank second in the NFL when utilizing two tight ends and two receivers on first-and-10 at 9.14 yards, and the Steelers are 10th in the league when going with two tight ends and one wide receiver on first-and-10. Most often, this latter designation signifies the use of fullback Roosevelt Nix in addition to the pair of tight ends.
