Artie Burns and Joe Haden staying on their respective sides of the Steelers defense, for now

The Pittsburgh Steelers haven’t had a cover corner who follows the opposition’s top wide receiver since Ike Taylor was in his prime. Other than that, it has been a defensive approach which keeps the cornerbacks on their respective sides covering whomever lines up across from them.

Second year cornerback Artie Burns might be on track to cover the opposing team’s best receiver, but after the acquisition of Joe Haden, it doesn’t appear the team will be deploying him that way. At least not in Week 1 when the team plays the Cleveland Browns.

According to Burns, via Mark Kaboly of DK Pittsburgh Sports, Burns is sticking to his side:

After following Antonio Brown around the field all training camp, Burns played strictly the right side and Haden the left side during practice. “That’s what it is for right now but we will see how it goes.”

In retrospect, Ike Taylor was good although his hands were suspect. Good thing he wasn't a WR.

Ike would be head to Canton in a year or two if he hand hands at all.

QB's could ran out to Ike and hand him the ball and he would still drop it.
