Ben on Bell and Playing vs. the Colts

Ben Roethlisberger expects to play for the first time this preseason when the Steelers host the Indianapolis Colts at Heinz Field on Saturday night.

He just doesn’t expect to be out there too long, though.

“I think that’s what it’s going to depend on how well we play, how long we play,” said Roethlisberger. “I’ll probably go two series.”

Roethlisberger said the playing time is about getting the offense fine-tuned in advance of the season opener against the Cleveland Browns on

    Sept. 10.

“Looking just to click, move the ball, and pick up first downs,” said Roethlisberger. “Obviously getting in the end zone is always a big deal. We

    want to move the ball.”

He will still be without one of his biggest weapons on offense, running back Le’Veon Bell who has yet to sign his franchise tender. Bell hinted

via Twitter that he will be returning to the team on Sept. 1, ahead of the opener.

Here is a video of the interview, some really good responses from Ben. I am going to miss him when he retires. I had my doubts for a couple of years when he was trying to find himself as a man, things got a little

out of hand, but I am glad to see him pull through it all.

I don't think we need Bell against the Browns.

Ben channeling his inner teenage girl with regard to Bell

Roethlisberger told the Tribune-Review on July 28 that two text messages he sent to Bell went unreturned, and he told reporters Wednesday that he still has not had contact with Bell, who is working out on his own in Miami.

"There's no hard feelings on my side," Roethlisberger said. "I'd love to hear back from him – a text to say, 'Hey, how are you doing?' – but it is what it is."

    Let me see...

    BELL:
    --unavailable for the playoffs
    --suspended twice
    --smokes weed
--feels that Steelers fans should cheer his presence

    BRYANT:
    --unavailable for the playoffs
--suspended twice (once for an entire season)
    --smokes weed
--feels that Steelers fans should cheer his presence

    BB:
--had the best playoff run by a QB ever (2005)
    --two times SuperBowl champion
--historical game-winning TD drive in SuperBowl
    --drama queen!!!!!

Yeah smoking weed is so much more irresponsible than a multimillionaire QB getting injured while riding his motorcycle without a helmet after his head coach told him to cut it out or going into the bathroom of a college dive bar with a drunk student and coming out as the subject of a criminal investigation for sexual assault along with a four game suspension (whether Goodell should have done it does not mean it didn't happen)

I have no interest in Steelers players other than how they perform on the field and no illusions that professional athletes are role models, but Ben's actions off the field compared to those of Bell and Bryant at the same age are no talking point in Ben's favor

An NFL superstar's repulsive behavior, the ultimate expression of athletic entitlement run amok, has forced even the most diehard fans to question their team and their football faith—and made a small town in Georgia wish he'd never paid a visit.

The problem is the Steelers could lose with Bell. Tomlin doesn't do well against bad teams. At least Kizer is supposed to start. That helps a lot.

    Touché.

Weed, alleged rape, helmetless motorcycle rides... et cetera.

BUT... as you stated above, it's all about performance. And, BB has brought two Lombardis to Pittsburgh, while Bell & Bryant have played in two playoff games (total).

Agreed - I will always take an incorrigible lout who wins championships over a losing QB who only drinks milk, attends church 7 days a week and runs into burning buildings to save puppies in his spare time

As I often add to my posts (I love this clip)
