Kozora 2017 Steelers’ Roster Prediction: Post First Game

Throwing out my first Pittsburgh Steelers’ roster prediction since the dead of the offseason. Decided against making one right before camp because it was going to look generally the same as the first. It’s still fluid, an important caveat to note, but we have a little more to go off of.

Definitely some tough decisions to make at wide receiver and corner. Let me know what you guys think, and would do differently, in the comments below.

Keeping 7 corners on the 53 wouldn't be shocking. If Brian Allen continues to play well, no way he makes it to the PS, he's a 6'3" corner with 4.4 speed, he's not some late round linebacker.

Even if a team doesn't view him as a potential starter in the future, they could easily see him as a guy that can defend these big TE's in the league. The Pats(Bill Bellichick) traded for Eric Rowe(similar players) last year to do that exact job.

I hope they keep Justin Hunter and all 7 cornerbacks.

We should be able to get 4 serviceable players if we keep 7 CB. It all depends on contracts and who would qualify and survive the practice squad. You hate to lose DHB, but we have Nix to cover for him on STs. We could lighten up on WRs to keep the extra CB.

Go light at safety. Mitchell and Davis are fine as the starters. I guess Golden is NFL replacement level. After that they all stink anyways.

Plus in a nightmare scenario, Allen gets a hat and plays safety. Or, Shazier plays safety and LJ Fort mans the middle.

I know none of this is realistic, but it is kinda fun...

From Kazora's reports it sounds like Hunter has a leg up on DHB and Coates. I would prefer to see Hunter in action first before taking a stance. I wouldn't mind seeing this team move on from both DHB and Coates. Lord knows it took long enough to move on from Wheaton. I feel like both players are about as good as Wheaton. I feel Hunter may have been stuck with a poor franchise. Where DHB and Coates are average players with a good franchise.

Coates has the edge over Hunter right now....Hunter was horrible in pratice today.

I could swear they we're saying Thursday Hunter had a better day than Coates. Tomlin was saying something about 2 dogs 1 bone.

I believe that if Coates is healthy, he is a much better player than Hunter.

The injury of Coates and Wheaton was a factor why our passing game was very inconsistent last year.

That seems about right. Hunter is a helluva an athlete - http://www.nfl.com/combine/profiles/...ter?id=2540151. But he can't catch worth a darn - https://www.pro-football-reference.c...H/HuntJu00.htm.

From August 6, 2016 (when he was in the process of busting out of Tennessee) - "He simply doesn't play with enough physicality to win the ball out wide.". In June of the same off-season - "Hunter's on-field passivity and lack of a "my-ball" mentality have arguably been his biggest NFL deficiencies."

Hunter is too darn talented to not ball out in practice - but he is a shrinking violet come game day for some reason. I was really excited about this pick-up when it happened. He seems to be the perfect candidate for the Steelers WR rehabilitation program. I also would've liked to see them take a flier on his co-failure from the Titans, Dorial Green-Beckham - but I think that dude just basically gave up on football.

Hunter might get caught up in a situation where there is just too much talent at the position group to keep him around. Personally, I would rather have Coates and DHB over Hunter until he shows more desire and drive during padded games.

On Hunter...there's always a reason when guys that big, fast, and athletic can't stick with a team. And you know it's not ability.

I hate that Adams has been hurt. Good news for Moats though.

Our safety group is terrible. Golden and Dangerfield have been special teamers that also happen to be on the safety depth chart. Better keep 7 CBs.

Can this Oline/Dline get ANY better?
