New Faces 2017: RB Terrell Watson

We are now at a point during the offseason in which we find ourselves looking at training camp just around the corner for the Pittsburgh Steelers and the rest of the league, and a lot has changed for them over the course of the past several months. They have lost a number of players in free agency, through releases, and retirements. But they have also brought in a number of new faces to replace them.
We all know that roster turnover is an ever-present reality for today’s rosters, and it seems that over the course of the past half-decade or so even the Steelers have proven to be as susceptible to the annual shakeup as anybody. With that in mind, we should take the time to get to know some of the new faces with training camp soon to be here.
Oh, hello Terrell Watson, the big, bruising back who hails from the same university of the Nigerian Nightmare, Christian Okoye. That reference bears relevance, since Watson broke many of Okoye’s school records, and, evidently, he has taken to being called ‘Nightmare’ by Mike Tomlin.

Steelers Training Camp Nuggets: What you need to know from the 8/6 practice

Getting you caught up on another training camp practice from Steelers Family Fest at Heinz Field.

    Notable Performers:

Ladies and gentlemen, introducing Terrell “Nightmare” Watson. From all accounts, the 6’1” 240 lbs running back had three touchdowns in the goal line drill, broke a few big runs, and was given the alias “nightmare” from head coach Mike Tomlin after attending the same college as Christian “the Nigerian Nightmare” Okoye. He is definitely someone that all Steelers fans should watch during their first preseason game on Friday evening.

Someone I'll be paying attention to during the pre-season.

Davis better impress with his return abilities. Still not counting out Fitz.

Is Watson is a good receiver?

This is important for the steelers that our running backs are a good receiver.

I think Fitz beats out Davis, unless he just kills it at returning kicks. Everything I'm hearing is that Davis is not impressing.

Davis was really good a few years ago as a start replacing Charles when he missed time before his bad injury. Fat ass Reid was really dig him and somehow he ended up in Reid's dog house the following year and was never given a chance since. Kniles will impress in these upcoming preseason games. This Watson sounds promising and to bad we can't turn him into a FB. Would make for a great goal line offense and who you going to key on him or Bell ?

Terrell Watson Shows Vision And Power In Preseason Debut

The Pittsburgh Steelers obviously did not have their full arsenal in terms of their running game last night. Not only were they absent running backs Le’Veon Bell, their All-Pro, and James Conner, the third-round rookie draft pick, but they also did not have starting offensive linemen Alejandro Villanueva and Maurkice Pouncey, the latter a perennial member of the AFC Pro Bowl roster.

Granted, the Giants did not field their full arsenal either, but even their depth is an imposing challenge, as they had among the best run defenses in the league last season. Yet the Steelers’ rushing depth held up well against their front seven. And a lot of the credit for that goes to first-year runner Terrell Watson.

Watson, out of Azusa Pacific, was one of three running backs who got the ball for Pittsburgh last night, and he also did the most with his opportunities, though they all did fairly well.

Between Watson, Fitzgerald Toussaint, and Knile Davis, the Steelers ran the ball 24 times and gained 97 yards for their efforts, which comes in just a hair above four yards per carry. That is not bad, especially if you add in a nine-yard wide receiver end-around and a 16-yard quarterback scramble to the mix.

The Steelers wanted to get a good look at Watson though, and they got one toward the end of the game, beginning with the final drive of the third quarter that bled into the fourth.

Being that Watson is 6'1" and not the required 3'9" , Haley will cut him.
