This from Gerry Dulac of the P-G on Golson
Gerry Dulac - He has a tear of the hamstring that's going to keep him out for a couple weeks.

Probably good news for Willie Gay

Few weeks? he's done.
1. Amarius Mims, OT, Georgia 2. Zach Frazier, C, West Virginia 3. Roman Wilson, WR, Michigan 3. Renardo Green, CB, FSU 4. Mo Kamara, OLB, Colorado State 6. Logan Lee, DT, Iowa 6.Khristian Boyd, NT, Northern Iowa
If he can play and play well in even 2 preseason games he has a path to the 53.
Is he practice squad eligible?
Still, doesn't look good.

State Farm agent Golson.
His NFL career is over. Can't get on the field. Has he ever played in a game?

Ahhh this sucks.... I really felt like he would have been the honey badger 2.0
This team is not really oozing DB talent. If the hammy heals up and if he finishes preseason strong, who keeps him off the roster?
i know that's a ton of ifs....
How much money has he made? A couple million? Not bad for zero work.
just not sure how you keep a guy on the roster who has contributed nothing in 3 years regardless of his draft slot , I mean this training camp may have been his most active to date and he had what 1 padded practice ? ( whatever it is its minuscule )
meanwhile mini mouse Hilton has been busting his hump and making plays
It seems highly likely that by the end of Golson's career, I will have appeared in exactly as many professional football games as he has.
See you Space Cowboy ...
*In three years with the Steelers, he’s participated in seven practices, finishing only five of them.*
This guy needs to disappear, like now.
Why cut him now? There is no benefit to moving him off the roster now. There is no CB hanging out on the street right now that is better than a healthy Golson could be.
Now if he (this is more than somewhat doubtful) returns to health and performs well in preseason action, the team may realize some value from Golson's draft cost.
If Golson is still dinged up and not performing at a high level come cut-down time, then sure -- turn him loose.
That all may be true - but it is literally costing the team nothing to keep him around and roll the dice that he recovers and stays healthy.
If this was the final 53 man roster, then it is really a serious consideration to cut Golson. But rosters are at like 900 guys right now.
Exactly right. Now, when the first round of cuts comes along, that may be the time to think about whether we want to continue banging our heads against this wall with Golson, or try out someone that another team let go.
If we wait until the final 53, I doubt there's any chance a new pickup would even get on the field this year given how we handle things. So partway through training camp would be when it would make sense to make a move if we're going to. That's close enough that I don't think there's even time for Golson to prove anything one way or another.
Sucks that he actually made it to the practice field and the PUP list is not an option, because that would be the perfect thing to buy time in a situation like this. But the more this drags on, the more it looks like he's unlikely to play this year either (again, given how we handle things, he's probably not going to miss most of training camp and then get on the field in regular season games without having played in one before). So why not bring in someone and see if they can at least be fit for spot duty? While we gain nothing by releasing Golson this very minute, I would be surprised if we don't cut our losses and move on in the next couple weeks. I don't think we've been doing our planning for the season figuring he'll play much of a part in it.
See you Space Cowboy ...
I think given his historical progress, if we give him 2 more years, he might make it to some regular season action...
Just let him go, for his own safety. Let's say he makes it to a game.....he isn't leaving that game without needing a full body cast. Then the Steelers are stuck with him for another year on IR.
Better to cut losses as soon as possible. I don't care how much of a 'glimpse' at being good he can shine now, he can't play without risking death at this point.
Pull the Band-Aid off quickly and cut him. He is too much of a distraction and taking a valuable roster spot from somebody who can at least get on the field. He had more than enough chances for somebody who should have never been drafted in the first place.
All Defense!
He might be good at Madden NFL, but he isn't any prospect to build a team around.
All Defense!
Just want to see this kid play... so much hype and nochsnce to play...its a shame
