See ya Sammie.
The end of Sammie Coates’ 2016 season was marred by injury.
In 2017, it’ll begin with one too.

Even if it was very stupid to say that, Martavis was right when he said that JuJu is the replacement of Coates.
Not looking good.
Btw, thanks for not digging up some 6-month old unrelated thread about Coates to post this in. That drives me crazy around here and a couple other sites.
Colbert knew what he was doing by drafting JuJu...
We are limited at TE. JuJu AND Rogers may see a lot of together time.
It'll be a month.
The chances of Hunter, or Ayers making the 53 has increased.
Have to feel bad for Coates, f'd up fingers, now he'll miss a month of camp in a deep WR group.
1. Graham Barton, C, Duke 2. Ricky Pearsall, WR, Florida 3. Maason Smith, DT, LSU 3. Max Melton, CB, Rutgers 4. Blake Fisher, OT, Notre Dame 6. Tommy Eichenberg, ILB, Ohio State 6. MJ Devonshire, CB, Pittsburgh
I'd put the money on Hunter over Ayers. I hate it for Coates but this is exactly why Hunter was brought in.
I say stick him on IR this year. Then see if he can get his weight up to around 250 (50 pounds) without losing a ton of speed. If he can, let him try out at TE next year. If not, or if he's not willing, then let him go. The roster's too full of talent.
Justin Hunter.....come on down. Your turn at the Steelers WR rehab machine starts now.
May the odds ever be in your favor.

It's looking like #14 was an oddly appropriate choice for him.
I hope he makes it back in time to actually get something out of the preseason. There WILL be a role for him, I guarantee it. Just a question of which of our other receivers ends up with some random injury.
See you Space Cowboy ...
I said when he was drafted to look for much more 10 personnel from the Steelers this year ( not something we run often prior )
would also like to see some 20 personnel with Connor and Bell set to each side of Ben out of the shotgun , that formation gives you so much diversity in running the ball from the shotgun , swing passes , slants and one or both backs can stay in and help protect if the def is showing blitz packages .....
am hopeful for both formations seeing some snaps but am almost certain we see 10 without a doubt
The steelers have too much talent at the wide receiver position in 2017 that I hope Haley will not go too often with the 2/3 TE formation..
Our receivers were a big weakness in 2016 after Brown because of the injury Wheaton and Coates but in 2017, if our WR are healthy, it should be a strength.
I can see Coates not making it after this, he only flashed his ability for 1/2 a season, but this opens the door for Hunter. We will see who is hungry this preseason as this injury puts 1 more spot in flux. Going to be a fun preseason for sure!
If Ben Coates is his dad he should move to TE. If not, then Sammy is on the clock.
All Defense!

so to open camp Justin Hunter gets first reps opposite AB ....its early but not starting like a guy who will be cut , not sure why Martavis wasn't in that spot
At this point I think it is pretty clear that this a league office issue, not a Martavis Bryant issue. The league almost never moves quickly to reinstate guys.
Coates is to talented to give up on and will have a roster spot. His hands was questionable from the get go. Even if he only catches 50% of the long balls that is still good for the team. I also see Hunter making this team and bet he will be one of the players that has a great preseason. I don't think Bey keeps a roster spot this season.
JuJu is OUT today, so with JuJu, Coates and Bryant out, our WRs are not a strength right now.
I hope it will not be like last year where we have thought before the season last year than the WR position would be a strength, even with Bryant out and that after Wheaton and Coates have been injured, it was horrible after Brown.
Probably just being precaution with JuJu since of others being out. Agreed though and hope not like last season. If it is then that is just horrible luck but I have faith.
