Gil Brandt's greatest NFL linebackers of all time

    I can't believe this wasn't posted yet.

He places Kevin Greene not only at #10, but ranked higher than Ham and Lambert. He actually placed Lambert at 22. He is either ignorant; hates the Steelers or is trying to be controversial.

I believe the game is designed to reward the ones who hit the hardest. If you can't take it, you shouldn't play!- Jack Lambert

Brandt an idiot? I really don't think so. Brandt hates the Steelers? I think you could make a good case for this one. However, what I believe, and I may be in the minority, I never have see Brandt as the talent genius that some see him as.

What's already been stated aside, I would put Singletary and Seau both much higher on that list. I'd certainly much rather have either one of them on my team than, say, Ray Lewis or Derrick Brooks.

I also think Derrick Thomas is a bit overranked here; I mean, he was really good, but certainly not the second-greatest of all time.

As for Greene, I think that's a product of pure statistics, but in terms of game impact there are a lot of guys who had more, as has been pointed out already.

Ray Lewis deserves to be number 2 on that list. He murdered running backs. He routinely knifed through O-linemen, in order to kill the quarterback. He left the opposition bloodied. And, other double entendres.

Careful with that; your wit is sharp, but it can be a double-edged sword.

Since this thread is already derailed...

My buddy got married in November of 2001. My wedding gift to them was a set of kitchen knives... which I had the following engraved on each blade: "If found, please, return to: Ray Lewis."

Not sure being included on Gil Brandt's list automatically means that given he ranked Zeke Elliot the no. 26 RB of all time and Malcolm Butler the no. 20 CB of all time

1 year of production behind one of the better 0-lines in the game ..should tell us EVERYTHING we need to know about his " lists"

One of the better o-lines is an understatement. That's one of the 2 best o-lines in the league if not the best. Darren McFragile ran for 1,000 yards behind that o-line

Gil Brandt is good at remembering draft information and obscure facts about draft prospects. He's good at telling you what a draft prospect is good at and bad at. He's not good at evaluating NFL talent and all of his lists have a guy at the top from the ancient era just to remind you how much "he knows" and how much more he knows than you.

Brandt had a great 15-20 year run during his time as personnel director for the Cowboys from 1960-89. From the mid-60s through the early 80s the Cowboys were consistently among the most talented teams in football (5 Super Bowl appearances in 70s, 18 playoff appearances in 20 seasons from 1966-85) - Brandt has to get significant credit for that, which was built on more than one or two good drafts

But like the rest of the 70s Cowboys Brandt has it in for the 70s team they could not beat
