Nix could push DJ off the roster. This camp will be referendum on what Haley wants from Tes. Blocking or downfield receiving.

I think whether or not Johnson makes the team is based on how well Grimble has improved as a blocker. I feel like you have to have 1 TE who can block and if they feel like Grimble can be that guy, while also providing more in the passing game, then they can give Johnson the boot.

Thinking about the WR/TE positions. With a Fairly solid group of WRs available, maybe the TE group becomes James, Johnson, Orndoff, with Green as a wildcard if he stays healthy but used more outside than inline to protect from concussion.

TEs become primarily blockers with ability as pass catchers. So only 3 on the roster.
WRs keep AB, JuJu, Rogers with Coates, Hunter, DHB, in full competition. Bryant is the wildcard depending on whether or not he stays clean and on the field.

End up with a WR/TE group of AB(L), Rogers(slot), JuJu/Bryant(R), one of Coates, DHB, or Hunter as backup. James, Johnson, and Orndoff at TE, with Green playing as a wide TE/backup WR role. So basically 4/5 and 3/4.

    Notes:

    * Moats can be cut with cap savings of 2.2 million.

    * Green who can be cut with cap savings of 2.6 million

    * Rookie free agents are most likely to win a spot at TE, LB, or DB.

    * Orange equal bubble player. 50/50
I can't see them keeping 4 TEs and only 8 O-linemen. I don't who would be the 9th O-lineman kept in the roster at this point, but I believe they keep 9 to 10 O-linemen each season.

I think Green could be cut, and if so there will be a 9th OL, but he has to earn a spot as the 9th OL player sits on the bench. We might have two OL players on the practice squad.

Depth wise, Finney is excellent and Hubbard can play OT or G as well. Hawkins could be the key. If he can play, then we have more depth at tackle.

I don't know about that. Johnson is already the best blocking TE. Plus, didn't he just sign a 2 year deal recently? With our strong corps of WRs, I lean more toward keeping the blockers and cutting the "Y" TEs.

That's why I think this camp and cutdown cycle will be fascinating for the TE position. Are they going for a mix of types or will it be a roster full of move TEs?

Orndoff got an invite and from what I understand about him, he's definitely a blocker with pass catching ability. Same skill set as with Johnson, Spaeth, Miller, etc. Not sure what James is but he's more of a blocker than Green(especially with the concussion issues). Guys that can block well, that also have some pass catching ability, will be the leaders heading into TC, IMO. Like I had posted before, I would like to see Green moved to more of a slot/wide TE position rather than inline. Less risk of future concussions that way, plus he's a pass catcher anyway. Get him in space. If he can make the roster at all.

On Grimble....I think he's done. Too much of a project guy to begin with. You know he only had a 26.5" vert, and that's at 6'4".
