I remember this. It was absolutely stupid that no one drafted him with their 7th-round pick that year. He basically would've had no choice but to sign. Once you get past his agent's bluster and rhetoric, the choice would be sign the deal and start the clock ticking on the rookie wage scale so you can get to your "real" contract ... or sit out an entire season, then come back and be locked into a rookie deal for just as long, only you've been out of football for a year and earned nothing. Or maybe you get taken in the first round and get locked into the rookie wage scale for an extra year on top of that, so you've lost two years total of potential high earnings.
It's really hard to make up in your next contract for missing out on a year's salary that would've netted you $8-10 million. Agents are greedy and have thought this out, and he would've changed his stance the day after the draft. Someone should've called his bluff.
