I don't know what the issue is and since we was gifted a extra 3rd. Let Laundry go elsewhere and make Zach the 2 behind Ben and draft one in the 3rd 0r 4th to be our 3rd string and possible future QB.

Jury is still out on someone of those number 1's and specially Goff. Again we was gifted a 3rd so taking a chance there or later is worth throwing a dart. Got to try soon. Not to mention will be a postion of need if we let Laundry walk. Which I would like and feel better with Zach as the 2.
Ps. most of the 1's you mentioned was high round picks and do you actually see us having a shot to take a QB in the early 1st next year ?
True... Goff is a huge question mark. Likewise, I didn't even list Bridgewater, Bortles, nor Tannehil (all first-rounders).
But, overwhelmingly, if you're gonna find a franchise QB, it happens before pick 40 ... and, that 2017 crop is not nearly as good as 2018's (possible) crop.

Bingo... which is why having two R1 picks would help us move up in the 2018 draft.
So basically we will be offering our very late rd number 2 pick for some other teams 1 next year. I still think we have to throw in a decent rd pick next year to seal the deal. That said we are probably getting a late first rd pick from what team that bites on the deal. Then we will offer both our 1's next year to sniff the top ten for a QB. To a team not looking to draft one and are not sold on another position or player.
I'm for it but a lot of if's and think Ben only has two years left at most and could be done after this year. If that is the answer hope it works!
IMO, one of the most important stats in college football is completion percentage. If a QB can't consistently hit his WRs in college (where most of them are open by a yard or two), that QB will not make it in the NFL (where being open is a matter of inches).
As I said back then, Locker never surpassed the 60% completion rate (i.e. he'd struggle in the NFL).
On a related topic, that 2011 draft was very interesting. Of the first 16 picks, twelve became Pro Bowlers and one was pretty good... but, the other three were complete duds. Those three duds: Jake Locker, Blaine Gabbert, & Christian Ponder.
SUMMATION: QBs are a boom or bust situation; you have to evaluate them very carefully.
(NOTE: Andy Dalton & Colin Kaepernick were drafted in early R2... and, Tyrod Taylor wasn't drafted until R6.)
Not defending Locker or changing the subject, but Locker left the NFL due to concussions, not poor play. Unless you count poor OLine play.
I would be for making the trade if it meant getting our franchise QB of the next 10-15 years. I would actually give up more than that if that were the outcome. Nothing ventured, nothing gained? Plus, we're kind of playing with house money on this one.
Locker retired because of concussions. He was benched (in favor of Mettenberger) due to poor play.
Exactly!!! In this draft, I want an OLB and a CB... and every other pick is worth trading away for the chance to get our next QB. We have our WR, our RB, and a stellar O-line. After BB retires, it'd be a shame to watch all of that offensive talent go to waste with some pedestrian QB.
I would "like" some other players, but if the next two drafts netted a Pro Bowl OLB, a solid #2 CB, and a franchise QB... I'd be more than ecstatic.
Agreed. Lots of players in this draft that I "like". None more than making sure we have our QB position set. If a pedestrian QB could work, we wouldn't have been having the Landry Jones debate this entire off season. Speaking of Landry Jones, you think he can play CB or become a pass rush specialist?
Rumor has it that...
At the NFL combine, GMs are trying to trade picks in next year's draft ... most likely, inorder to have trade-bait so that can move up for Sam Darnold.
Yep.
(My educated guess is that Cleveland is the team most heavily shopping their R1 pick in 2018... followed by the Jaguars.)
