Should give the team an extra million or so. But honestly I didn't think his job was safe to begin with. Hawkins can be really good, had a great camp last summer, and played well in his first pre season game.
Tackle position: AV, Gilbert, Hubbard, Hawkins= A+

Harris, who will be turning 32 next month, is due to make a base salary of $1.9 million in 2017, and there is certainly no guarantee that he will be the third-best tackle on this team. The Steelers had a great deal more uncertainty at the tackle position, including at the starting left tackle spot, than they had a year ago.
That is a blow to the veteran’s value, especially if Hawkins looks to be the sort of player that they expected him to be.
