Mike Tomlin says TE Ladarius Green suffered a ‘setback’ in protocol

    By Matt Barbato
    January 10, 2017
Pittsburgh Steelers coach Mike Tomlin revealed some bad news regarding tight end Ladarius Green.

Tomlin announced Green suffered a “setback,” per the Observer-Reporter’s Dale Lolley. It’s uncertain what type of setback Green endured, but he’s been in concussion protocol for the past two weeks and missed Pittsburgh’s wild card win over the Miami Dolphins.

Green has been banged up for most of the season and missed 10 games during his first season with the team. He caught only 18 passes for 304 yards and 1 touchdown.

There’s no official word on Green’s status for Sunday’s divisional round game against the Kansas City Chiefs. But the tight end’s chances of playing seem slim, at best.

Could this be the end for Green?

    Re: Ladarius Green setback...

This article's source is from Dale Lolley writing about last week's setback which we already knew about.

This week we just know he is still in concussion protocol.

Tomorrow we will find out if any progress is made, if he practices.

    http://www.observer-reporter.com/201..._other_nuggets
@ The curious case of Ladarius Green continues.

Tomlin said Green had a setback late last week after practicing fully Wednesday and Thursday as he attempts to come back from a concussion that sidelined him for the final two regular season games.

That suggests to me that Green either had some workout-induced issues or could not pass the indepent neurologist tests that need to be cleared before he can play.

We’ll see where Green is this week starting Wednesday. He was with the team on Sunday, which is a good sign. They haven’t completely shut him down.

Isn't this why he missed all of time before? Remember the headaches? Perhaps he was damaged goods.

I don't think it was clear whether it was headaches or ankles....did they say what it was exactly?

The rumor was that he had lingering effects from a concussion from LAST season. The Steelers swore it was an ankle...

If he was indeed having headaches 10 months later (December until October) then that is a bad, bad sign. He should have just retired. BUT... it could just have been his ankle.

That's what I thought. There was no definitive answer other than it was his ankle...but the concussion rumor was still out there.

At this point I'm just tired of him. He was damaged goods when we signed him and got paid a lot of money for doing very little. He needs to just retire and we need to move on.

If it is concussion, that would be the smart thing to do. The team thing to do would be retire today.

    To clarify...

I do not fault a guy for not playing, if his head hurts. We've been inondated with data as to why that is really, really, really bad in the long term.

What sort of gets my goat is that if he knew that he would never play again, then he should have retired last year. Maybe he didn't know... and if he does indeed retire, maybe the Steelers can gets some of that money back.

Lastly, when healthy, we saw what kind of TE he can be. Alas, it looks like he may be done. Or... SuperBowl MVP.

Didn't Sidney Crosby have some specialist help him?

    That's not good.

Concussions affect everyone differently ... there are some guys who could get knocked out 50 times in one summer and be just fine. There are others who can take 2 or 3 big shots to the head ever, and not be OK. He definitely seems like he falls into the latter group. Sucks.

$3.562 million cap hit if he goes in 2017

Someone apparently did not do their due diligence on his medical condition prior to signing - Steelers may have hit the panic button after Heath's retirement may have been a surprise.

Of course without signing Green then they might have pushed harder to sign Eric Weddle at safety - long term I like having Davis instead

Are there many good TE's this year besides Roku Sudoku?

I thought TE was a bit thinner than usual?

Along with Shoes I have felt this has been a priority for several years.

However James is still developing and I don't know if it is a need to the point where I want to see us reaching.
