The hits just keep on coming
The Steelers Saturday morning declared kicker Chris Boswell as questionable with an abdominal injury.
Boswell, who was not previously on their injury list, is the only kicker on their roster and they do not have one on their practice squad. They would have until 4 p.m. Saturday to sign another kicker if they deem that necessary for Sunday’s game against the New York Giants at Heinz Field.

The Steelers announced the team has signed kicker Randy Bullock and released cornerback Al-Hajj Shabazz.
The Steelers announced on Saturday that they have signed kicker Randy Bullock to their active roster and released cornerback Al-Hajj Shabazz.
Bullock most recently kicked for the New York Giants in Week 1 earlier this year. Bullock was originally drafted by the Houston Texans in the fifth round of the 2012 NFL Draft. He spent three years on the Texans roster and then spent a portion of the 2015 season with the New York Jets.

Exactly.
It's not like Boswell has the 10th best touchback rating, up from dead last (from last season).
In fact, if we're going to hypberbolize, I'd much rather just try on on-side kick every single time. If the opposing team recovers it at their 45... oh well... their 45 is better than giving it to them at mid-field the majority of the time.

It's simple math.
Boswell's touchback percentage is "only" 67%. Since, the Steelers' opponents usually start at midfield, the odds of getting an onside kick HAVE to be better than that "piddling" touchback percentage.
Kick offs are not my concern field goals and extra points are.
I agree. FGs are my main concern.
The loss of Boswell could be huge. Case in point: the first Ravens game last season.
Thankfully, in this game, BB is playing (instead of Vick); ergo, we might only be concerned when the new kicker attempts extra points (i.e. we may not need to go for FGs).
Just gives Tomlin more of an excuse to go for two...
