More and more I wish this guy would have been a Steeler for his entire career, and not just the end of it.
All I know is when I was coming up (1970s), there were no "participation ribbons" for field day in elementary school. If you didn't come in 1st, 2nd or 3rd, you didn't get shit.
I was born in '65 so I grew up during the same time period. If you didn't get a ribbon or trophy, you'd sit there and watch the kids that did and that made you work harder the next time so that you could be one of the kids that got a ribbon/trophy. it was something to work for and it taught us that we had to work hard for what we wanted.
