Pirates pick up more junk players

Pirates trade for left-handed pitcher Eveland
Send minor-league reliever Uviedo to Blue Jays
    Tuesday, June 01, 2010
    By Dejan Kovacevic, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
The Pirates have acquired left-handed starter Dana Eveland in a trade with Toronto, sending minor-league reliever Ronald Uviedo to the Blue Jays.
Eveland, 26, has a 16-21 career record with a 5.66 ERA. For the season, he was 3-4 with a 6.45 ERA, with 21 strikeouts and 27 walks, much of that driven by three consecutive poor starts before being designated for assignment May 23. In those starts, he allowed 34 baserunners over 9 1/3 innings.
Eveland will immediately join the Pirates' rotation.
General manager Neal Huntington said Eveland "has shown the ability to be an effective major-league starting pitcher. He has an interesting four-pitch mix, and we feel this acquisition is a potential upgrade for our current rotation with the upside of years of control and improved production."
The Pirates' 40-man roster remains full.

This would be hilarious if it wasn't so sad and pathetic.

Yo Neal...how about calling up Brad Lincoln instead? Oh yeah, that's right...gotta make sure you keep control so you absolutely don't have to pay a guy one cent more than you have to.

They traded a guy who pretty much was on the DL with the Curve. So from what I can tell, it's a case of where they really just were swiping players.
