    Next Game: The Seattle Seahawks

Marshawn Lynch could undergo season-threatening hernia surgery

By Louis Bien on Nov 22, 2015

Marshawn Lynch's season may be in jeopardy. The veteran running back sat out Sunday's game against the San Francisco 49ers with an abdominal injury. The Seattle Seahawks did just fine without Lynch, beating the Niners 29-13 behind 255 total yards from backup Thomas Rawls. After the game, however, head coach Pete Carroll said that Lynch could be facing sports hernia surgery, adding that the next few days will be important to Lynch's season prospects.

Lynch has appeared in seven games this season and struggled to get going because of injuries behind a struggling Seahawks offensive line. He has 111 carries for 417 yards on the ground, good for 3.8 yards per carry -- his worst average since the 2010 season he split between Seattle and Buffalo.

Thomas Rawls' monster game carries Seahawks past 49ers

SEATTLE -- In mid-August, running back Thomas Rawls appeared far from a guarantee to make the Seattle Seahawks' roster.

Three months later, he carried the offense in a must-have game, piling up 255 yards on 33 touches in the team's 29-13 victory over the San Francisco 49ers.

The 49ers had a difficult time tackling Thomas Rawls as the Seattle running back amassed 255 total yards on Sunday.

On the Seahawks' first possession, Rawls caught a ball in the flat and turned it upfield near the right sideline. He could have easily gone out of bounds, but instead lowered his shoulder and ran over San Francisco 49ers cornerback Tramaine Brock, causing players on the Seahawks' sideline to erupt.

Coach Pete Carroll has said previously he wants a running back who is physical and seeks out contact. Rawls, an undrafted rookie out of Central Michigan, appears to be just that. He entered the game averaging a league-best 2.73 yards after contact, according to ESPN Stats & Information. And Rawls fought through 49ers tacklers all game long.

He showed he can be effective in short yardage, converting an early 3rd-and-1. But maybe more importantly, Rawls showed he can be a home run threat also. He totaled four plays of 20-plus yards -- three runs and a catch. In the fourth quarter, the Seahawks ran a play-action throwback to Rawls. He fought off 49ers linebacker Michael Wilhoite in the open field and raced to the end zone for a 31-yard score.

Rawls carried 30 times for 209 yards and caught three balls for 46 yards.

With Marshawn Lynch banged-up and set to turn 30 in April, it's impossible not to think about the Seahawks' future at running back. Lynch had missed one game in the previous five seasons combined. This year, he's missed three games and battled through neck, calf, hamstring and abdominal injuries.

The Seahawks tried and failed in the past to find Lynch's eventual replacement, trading Christine Michael and waiving Robert Turbin before the season. Rawls still has a relatively small body of work, but with another impressive performance Sunday afternoon, he's making the most of every opportunity.

One reason to get excited: In addition to Rawls, rookie wide receiver Tyler Lockett had a big game, catching four balls for 48 yards and two touchdowns. On the first score, Lockett ran a vertical route, and Wilson threw a beautiful ball for a 24-yard touchdown. On the second one, Lockett caught a slant in the red zone at the 6 yard line, fought through defenders and dragged them into the end zone. Lockett now has five touchdowns on the season -- three as a receiver, one as a kickoff returner and one as a punt returner.

One reason to panic: The Seahawks' defense continues to struggle against tight ends. Vance McDonald and Garrett Celek combined for six catches, 100 yards and a touchdown. Seemingly every week, opponents attack the Seahawks down the seams with their tight ends, and Kris Richard's group has been unable to come up with a solution on how to slow them down.

Injuries: Carroll said Friday he thought Lynch would be able to play against the 49ers, but Lynch ended up missing his third game of the season. He suffered the abdominal injury prior to the team's Week 10 matchup against the Arizona Cardinals, but played 79 percent of the team's offensive snaps in that game. On Sunday, center Patrick Lewis left with an ankle injury and linebacker Nick Moody had a hamstring issue.

Cornerback Cary Williams was replaced by DeShawn Shead, but the move didn't appear to be injury-related.

Up next: The Seahawks have a big matchup against the Pittsburgh Steelers Sunday at CenturyLink Field. Pittsburgh had a bye this weekend, but enters Week 12 with a 6-4 record.

Not really, as Bell > Lynch by a good margin.

Rawls is no slouch, which is a GOOD thing.
It seems our D-Line loves the challenge of facing a good RB.
Remember Jamaal Charles last season? Or the Bengals this season? Or how about Todd Gurley? Albeit it was his first game, but we shut him down. 9 carries, 9 yards, I believe

I trust the run defense this week, however, Jimmy Graham will probably have 8 TDs, and whoever their #3 receiver is will have 4 more TDs.

I dont see us winning because it's in Seattle.

Aside from the SD game this season, we usually suck on the West Coast so I do not feel good about this game whatsoever.

Well this and the Broncos, Osweiler didn't play terrible so they are not going to be an easy out with that Def (I will be rooting for them to give Cincy another loss though!).

A look at the Steelers remaining opponents

    By Mike Prisuta

With six games left in the regular season, here is a look at the road ahead for the 2015 Steelers.

A capsule look at the remaining teams on the Steelers’ schedule:

    Nov. 29, at Seattle (5-5)

Offense: No. 10 (first rushing, 27th passing)
Defense: No. 2 (10th rushing, second passing)
    Takeaway/giveaway: 12th (tied), plus 1

The skinny: Seattle has lost two games at home (3-2) for the first time since the 2011 season … The Seahawks are an NFL-best 23-5 in November-December games since 2012 … RB Thomas Rawls had 209 yards and a touchdown on 30 carries filling in for RB Marshawn Lynch in Sunday’s 29-13 home win over San Francisco. Rawls also caught a touchdown pass and leads Seattle with 604 yards on 101 carries (6.0 per carry) … The Seahawks have rushed for 100 yards as a team in 21 consecutive games … CB Richard Sherman has an NFL-leading 24 interceptions since 2011 ... Seattle led the NFL in scoring defense in 2012, 2013 and 2014 and is No. 7 this season (19.2 per game).

This game will tell you exactly how deep the Steelers will go in the playoffs. A convincing win means they go to the second round. A loss means one and done if they make it.

Report: WR Martavis Bryant and ILB Ryan Shazier miss Steelers Monday practice

    By Jeff.Hartman on Nov 23, 2015

The Pittsburgh Steelers are back to work preparing for the Seattle Seahawks in Week 12, and reports state they had two starters missing practice on Monday.

With the Pittsburgh Steelers Week 11 bye week in the rear view mirror, they now turn their complete focus to their Week 12 opponent, the Seattle Seahawks. The Steelers were back at work Monday at their South Side facility, but there were two prominent names who didn't participate in practice.

As reported by DKonPittsburghSports.com, WR Martavis Bryant and ILB Ryan Shazier both missed Monday's practice session. As the report states, teammates confirmed the duo missing the workout.

For Shazier, he was nursing a knee injury leading up to their Week 10 game against the Cleveland Browns which caused him to miss several practices leading up to the game. However, the injury didn't cause him to miss the game against the Browns.

Bryant would be an addition to the injury report, as he wasn't mentioned on any injury report since returning to the team after his 4-game suspension, and missing a 5th game due to a knee injury.

Mike Tomlin will address the media Tuesday at noon to discuss injuries, and the upcoming opponent, in his weekly press conference. In the meantime, it looks as if the Steelers' injury issues continue, even after the bye week.

They've had two weeks to prepare for this game. If they come out and lay a big egg, it's a problem. If they keep,it competitive and lose that's one thing. They lose by more than 14 and it's a problem.

The Steelers have rarely been blown out under Tomlin, so a loss by more than 14 would indeed be concerning.

Re: Next Game: The Seattle Seahawks

It will certainly be a difficult, our strength is our offense (specifically the passing game) and theirs is the LOB. Those match-ups will be very fun to watch. As for our defense, we need to stop the running game and contain Wilson, that should be enough to keep them low scoring. Not good news about Bryant, hopefully he will be ready to go. I don't think they have the ppl to stop Brown, Bryant, Wheaton and Heath (I don't think anyone has, not even the Broncos honestly). If we can win our 1on1 match-ups on offense, contain Wilson and slow the running game on def we will win this game.

Of the remaining six games, this the the game that the Steelers could afford to lose.

NFC teams barely have any influence on playoff seeding.

That said, this is a game that I would LOVE to win. A statement game.

The Colts game is more affordable to lose than this one when comparing to Cincinnati. This game falls under common opponents and the Bengals beat Seattle.

Doesn't AFC record come before common opponents?
