Antonio Brown whipped a pass into multiple coverage, and his receiver made a play for him. Mike Vick leapt high, caught the pass, ran into the end zone and spiked it as Steelers teammates roared approval.
It all happened at the end of practice Wednesday, and multiple players commented on it, including Brown, who told Vick that the reverse of that combination is what should happen in games: Vick to Brown, touchdown!
“I told him that’s how you throw the ball,” said Brown, smiling broadly. “He went up and made a good play. That was exciting. I kidded him about it. It’s all fun when you’re winning.”
Brown said he enjoyed the 24-20 victory Monday night in San Diego, too, although, for the second consecutive game, he caught fewer than five passes for fewer than 50 yards. He even played the decoy on Markus Wheaton’s 72-yard touchdown catch from Vick.
But Brown also made his point for the second week in a row — throw him the ball.
“I didn’t think I got the ball enough, but I always got to stay positive,” Brown said. “Obviously, my guy at quarterback, Mike Vick out there is playing conservative, to make sure we get the win. He’s not going to take too many shots or shots extra. He’s going to stick to the script and do the best he can ...
“As long as we keep winning, that’s all it’s about. But it’s evident I do need the ball.’’
