SteelersFever was "Jarvis Jones" Solid.
I was surfing youtube and came upon this, which reminded me of this thread. Sorry to dredge up an older thread, but I think the video settles any debate on whether Draft Kings is gambling or not...

Yeah, I remember looking through a thread that seemed "Safe" and then . . . POW! A pic of two chicks, one performing an enema on the other, both butt naked, and crap (literally) all over the place. And then . . . just as that came up on my screen . . . my wife walked into the room.
Seriously? It's a YouTube link dude...
It doesn't make any sense, but with Goodell's history of inconsistent punishment for players, is anyone really surprised?
lol ... NOTHING was safe.
Funny thing, looks like the current asking price for steelersfever.com is $2,000. When the original implosion was going on, I offered a little more than that in hopes of keeping it with the people who actually gave a damn, and literally got laughed at. Didn't know it finally shut down for good. But good - screw all those people.
See you Space Cowboy ...
I offered $2,500 in the Summer of 2009 as the old owner Michael had become an absentee owner long before that point and HTG and I were effectively running the whole thing anyway (well, as much as you can without full admin access). My offer was also laughed at. But then he found that sucker Matthew to pony up $23K for it the following Spring, so good for him, I guess.
Whatever it was, it was a plan that could suite you.
What really gets me is that with SteelersFever's placing in Googleanalytics at the time, along with the massive base of members, the owner could have recouped that money with some smart advertising deals and a little expansion of the site. It was really primed to be a One-Stop-Shop for everything Pittsburgh Steelers. A shame he thought charging members a fee would be a better move.
Yep. I guess he wasn't counting on the exodus that ensued after he locked the forums down for payment. Why he thought people would pay to post when every other message board out there didn't charge to do so is still beyond me. It wasn't like SF was creating any unique content (articles, exclusive player interviews, etc., etc.) that people would actually want to pay for.
I seem to remember the site prospectus saying it was bringing in about $1,500 a month in Google AdSense CPM ads. Basically $5 for every 1,000 page loads (to show the same 200 users those little ads at the top of the page over and over again). I don't doubt he made his money back eventually, but probably not the bonanza he was hoping for.
I remember when the guy posted on the forum the first time, it was basically asking everyone "let's all think of new ways we can help the site make money for me!" with a bunch of really lame football metaphors thrown in, and it was like dude .. you don't even have any clue at all, do you? He claimed he was making half a million or a million bucks a year from domain trading. What a shame that business pays.
See you Space Cowboy ...
According to the previous owner Michael, who tended to be more full of shit than a Xmas turkey. He's even showing as "suspended" on Flippa. I've always felt that $1.5K per month figure was HIGHLY dubious.
And who the hell would be stupid enough to pony up $2K minimum just for the domain name at this point of the game, especially since the site itself has been offline for damn near eight months? Yeah, good luck with that. Which is why I find it just as hard to believe that a numbnut who's as clueless as that Matthew character is is making $500K - $1M per year in domain trading as I do the $1.5K per month revenue claim for SF by Michael back in 2010.
I also find it quite humorous that this board is the first hit returned when Googling "Steelers Fever" now.

In 1925, bookie Tim Mara bought the New York Giants. His heirs still have half the team. Notorious gambler Art Rooney took over the Pittsburgh Steelers. His family still controls the team; the Rooney empire is purportedly breaking up so that the racetracks and casinos won’t be mixed with the football team.
