The sack is back, but there's a catch

How important are sacks to a defense?

“The only thing more important,’’ James Harrison said, “is an interception.’’

Harrison knows sacks. He ranks second in Steelers history with 70.5. He also knows interceptions. His 100-yard return for a touchdown in Super Bowl XLIII is a record.

And, at long last, the Steelers have embraced the sack again (if not the interception). Last season, their 33 sacks were a 26-year low. Going into Week 5, their 14 sacks put them on pace for a franchise-record 56. They rank fourth in the NFL. Denver is first with 18.

Still, Mike Tomlin would prefer to see them come another way. The Steelers became Blitzburgh again for a night when they often sent extra rushers to get their five sacks of Joe Flacco. He said it partially explained why the Ravens were able to rush for 191 yards.............

I'd really like to see Harrison become the all-time sack leader for Pittsburgh.

He needs to reach 77.5 to surpass Jason Gildon's 77 sacks. So Harrison needs 7 more sacks.

On a different note, Harrison needs 6 more forced fumbles to be the team's leader in that category also. As of now Greg Lloyd has the most forced fumbles as a Steeler with 34 forced fumbles.

I think he had 5.5 last season as a "part timer"?

Pass rush has gotten better, which I like. 2 5 sack games in only 4 games
