The starter should be the best player. Make the young guys earn their playing time.

I've tried to be patient, but Jones is really beginning to look like a wasted pick.
I have been down on Jones myself. But let me ask you: What has occurred since the beginning of last season to make you now think JJ is a bust?
Because he hasn't "made noise" as camp? "We talkin' about practice.....practice man. Practice."
JJ started last season well, with 2 sacks and 3 games, a fumble recovery I think. Then he got hurt, a pretty bad broken wrist.
In my mind, this is the season that we find out who the true JJ is. I am not overly confident, but it's not over yet in my mind.
I know he's James Harrison, but is Jones playing so bad right now that a guy, who isn't even practicing, is clearly that much better than him? Yeah he could be a wasted pick for sure.

Gotta wonder if this is why the Steelers hired that statistician. We've had too many high round draft picks that never lived up to their potential. Kudos to them for addressing the problem.

How can this possibly even be a problem with the vast amount of rabid fans (living in their parent's basements) that analyze every molecule of information and dissect those molecules in stats ?
So now this "paid expert" is going to now converge all these analyzed molecules and regurgitate it to the Steeler's Admin to understand ?
Why not hire these rabid fans and rescue their parents from them and get them out of their basements ? They could do a better job ! LMAO !

i'll wait to the end of this year if he is hurt or just ho hum then yes a waste pick. i think peezy is going to light a fire under him as far as harrison starting well he is a beast of a man and you dont want to have that on the sideline gota figure a way to get him on the field
For those i love i will sacrifice.

I wanted Eric Reid that draft. I was fine with the Jones pick though because it did fill a need and I thought he could be a decent player. However, if he could be a decent player that would be a step in the right direction. At this point, I don't even know if he can be decent.
There was a reason he dropped so far. I think other teams might have seen what the Steelers didn't and the Steelers jumped at the chance because they had just lost Harrison at the time and if Jones was a star, Harrison who?
I honestly believe that Jones could have been drafted with the 2nd round pick. I don't think any other team was interested in him at all. Other teams were probably eyeing him in the mid rounds. All of his combine numbers and pre draft numbers were horrible. That and the injury questions.
Hell, we could have probably still have gotten him in the 3rd.
Oh man, looking at this pre draft stuff makes me nauseous. It's all right there. Ouch.
I hope he makes me eat my words.
http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap100...eorgia-pro-dayJones didn't help his NFL draft stock, though, after running a muddy 4.92-second 40-yard dash in chilly conditions, The Associated Press reported Thursday. Among the linebackers who ran at the combine, only Virginia Tech'sBruce Taylor was slower. Jones' 20 bench-press reps would have tied for 16th.Those aren't the numbers you expect from a possible top-10 pick who recently called himself the best player in the draft.
"I'm a football player," Jones said after the workout. "It's about football, right? I'm a football player. That's what I do. At the end of the day, you get those drills -- I'm not saying they ain't worth nothing -- but you get those drills, running the 40 and all that stuff. You could get someone off the street who can run a 4.3, but they can't play football. That's easy."
The best players in the 2013 Draft is maybe Le'veon Bell!
This 2013 draft was awful in general in the nfl.
lol, according to all the so-called experts, it was one of the deepest drafts ever.
Of course, every year is supposed to be the deepest draft ever.
Kind of how like your EDM-loving friends will always tell you excitedly "OMG this guy is, like, the #1 DJ in Europe!" Then you find out EVERYONE is the #1 DJ in Europe. Even you.

It was certainly terrible for pass rushers. Ansah and Sheldon Richardson and then basically no one else from that class has double digit sacks - in their 2 year career.
Good class of DBs. How good would Desmond Trufant look in the current Steelers secondary?
Looking back at that draft, I agree. The Browns took Mingo sixth and he hasn't done much more than Jones and they're talking about him being a bust also.
I agree about Trufant. That's the guy that I'd most like to have out of the players that were available when we picked.

Steeler boards had him as the droy and the next great linebacker. Watching his so called highlight film you could clearly see otherwise
So refresh our memory, who or what do you like about the Steelers? Reviewing your posts I can't find a single thing that's happened with this team in the past decade that you're happy with or player you like that has been on our roster recently. You joined this board 3 years ago, and if you're not disparaging a Steeler player you're disparaging your fellow posters. If you are a Steeler fan you're the single most negative person I've ever seen. You don't seem to realize this team hasn't had a losing season since 03 and has been to 3 Super Bowls since the beginning of the new millennium. And if you're not a Steeler fan simply have the balls to identify who you support so we have a frame or reference of where you're coming from. We have many fans of other teams who post here without problem because they're upfront and aren't here seeking to agitate. Here's the thing JB, there's not one single person posting on this board I know of who thinks you're genuine. So if you're not here to troll then you're doing a pretty bad job of expressing yourself.
"A man's got to know his limitations."
Jarvis Jones is still relatively slow, fairly stiff, lacks any pass rush moves that will give a NFL caliber LT pause, often fails to set his edge on running plays, looks a bit lost in coverage out in space, easily gets caught up in the trash/pile when pursuing parallel to the line of scrimmage, and does not shed blockers well once they get their hands on him.
All of those shortcomings can be assessed and evaluated in a practice setting. To date, the only positive thing anyone has said about Jones is that he is a hard worker, has a decent football IQ, and finally hit the weight room this off-season. Great. But if several of the items above are not improved on, Jones will be a "bust". He may still play in the NFL - I mean Larry English still gets pass rush work...
That thread brought back some memories, LOL!

There was talk last year of Shazier being DROY but I don't remember anyone saying the same thing about Jones the previous year. Most here were skeptical of his talent, as you can see in the thread that FS76 posted.

Our starters will be Harrison and Moats, with BOTH Dupree and Jones showing absolutely nothing in camp. Did you see Dupree Sunday? He showed nothing whatsoever.
