Pope Francis to Host Major Summit on Climate Change

The Vatican announced Tuesday that it will host a major conference on climate change on April 28, featuring some of the world’s leading climate scientists and an opening address by U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon. The conference, Protect the Earth, Dignify Humanity: The Moral Dimensions of Climate Change and Sustainable Development, will also feature Jeffrey Sachs, a prominent American economist and director of the Earth Institute at Columbia University.

The summit hopes to “help build a global movement across all religions for sustainable development and climate change throughout 2015 and beyond,” and to highlight “the intrinsic connection between respect for the environment and respect for people—especially the poor, the excluded, victims of human trafficking and modern slavery, children and future generations,” says the Vatican.

The one-day summit will also include participants from major world religions and aims to “elevate the debate on the moral dimensions of protecting the environment in advance of the papal encyclical,” the Vatican says. The Pope’s much-anticipated encyclical on the environment is scheduled for release this summer.

Those Jesuits have always been trouble - trying to redistribute your wealth

A Brief History of the Jesuits

The Jesuits wasted no time, after the pope had approved of the Order, in involving themselves in everything: the education of the young, hearing of confessions, foreign missions, preaching. They went about their work with fanatical zeal. Through education, they aimed to control the future leaders of society. They particularly sought to gain control of the education of the children of political leaders and other influential people in the upper classes. Through their leniency in the confessional, as mentioned earlier, they slithered into the affections of the wealthy and powerful. Through foreign missions, they sought to convert the world to Roman Catholicism. Through preaching, they championed papal authority and other Roman Catholic doctrines, thereby strengthening the Papacy at a time when it was reeling from the devastating effects of the Reformation.

How to solve world hunger. By Sam Kinison

You want to help world hunger?

    Stop sending them food.

Don’t send them another bite, send them U-Hauls.

Send them a guy that says, “You know, we’ve been coming here giving you food for about 35 years now and we were driving through the desert, and we realized there wouldn’t BE world hunger if you people would live where the FOOD IS! YOU LIVE IN A DESERT!! UNDERSTAND THAT? YOU LIVE IN A FUCK’ing DESERT!! NOTHING GROWS HERE! NOTHING’S GONNA GROW HERE!

Come here, you see this? This is sand.

You know what it’s gonna be 100 years from now? IT’S GONNA BE SAND!! YOU LIVE IN A FUCK’ing DESERT! We have deserts in America, we just don’t LIVE in them, assholes!”

When the Pope cracks the whip...the bishops jump...

Archbishop of Canterbury trumps Pope in climate crusade

The Archbishop of Canterbury yesterday launched a crusade against climate change

The Most Reverend Justin Welby issued a green declaration signed by British faith leaders, which asserted that climate change has hurt the poor of the world...

The Anglican statement called on people of all faiths to ‘recognise the urgency of the tasks involved in making the transition to the low carbon economy’ and demanded that national leaders make laws to ‘limit the global rise in average temperatures to a maximum of two degrees celsius’...

Re: Pope Francis to Host Major Summit on Climate Change

    and here it is

Pope Francis: 'Revolution' needed to combat climate change

(CNN)—Pope Francis warned Thursday that a broad sweep of human activities -- from a blind worship of technology to an addiction to fossil fuels -- has brought the planet to the "breaking point," calling for a "cultural revolution" before the Earth is polluted beyond repair.

"Doomsday predictions," the Pope said in a sharply worded manifesto, "can no longer be met with irony or disdain."

The Pope denounces big businesses, energy companies, short-sighted politicians, scurrilous scientists, laissez faire economists, callous Christians and myopic media professionals. Scarcely any area of society escapes his probing pen.

"We are not faced with two separate crises, one environmental and the other social," Francis writes, "but rather one complex crisis which is both social and environmental."

Broken into six chapters, "Laudato Si" begins by cataloguing a host of ills wracking the planet: dirty air, polluted water, industrial fumes, toxic waste, rising sea levels and extreme weather.

The problem is "aggravated," the Pope says, "by a model of development based on the intensive use of fossil fuels."

    No?

    http://www.populartechnology.net/201...-alarmism.html

Still waiting on that worldwide famine that was supposed to happen before the turn of the century due to cooling temps and agriculture being effectively wiped out in the Northern Hemisphere as a result. Judging by the average American's waistline, I think it's safe to say it ain't happening any time too soon.

I wouldn't have nearly as much of a problem with these sorts of warnings from public figures if they actually suggested VIABLE solutions. "Cultural revolution?" What the fuck does that mean, exactly? Turn back the clocks to the Bronze Age? Go back to riding horses and get rid of modern conveniences completely? What?

Sorry, but until I hear someone come along with a SENSIBLE solution to reduce/eliminate pollution, I'm going to treat stuff like this as just more PC bullshit for the sake of being PC.

    just like I predicted

US Catholics ready to follow Pope's 'marching orders' on climate change

Leaders of the Catholic Church in America took their “marching orders” from the Pope’s encyclical on Thursday, fanning out to Congress and the White House to push for action on climate change.

The high-level meetings offered a first glimpse of a vast and highly organised effort by the leadership of America’s nearly 80 million Catholics to turn the Pope’s moral call for action into reality.

“It is our marching orders for advocacy,” Joseph Kurtz, the president of the US Conference of Catholic Bishops and the Archbishop of Louisville, said. “It really brings about a new urgency for us.”

Pope plans to chew coca leaves in Bolivia

Pope Francis has told the Bolivian government that he would like to chew coca leaves when he visits the Andean country next month, a Bolivian minister said on state television and radio on Sunday.

"We offered (the Pope) coca tea or something for the altitude," Culture Minister Marko Machicao said an interview with broadcasters.

It's worse than that, I'm afraid...now living in American is evil......mmmmmkay?

The socialist Pope wants you to apologize for being in America - white guilt for everyone!

Pope calls capitalism 'the dung of the devil'

Pope Francis on Thursday launched a blistering attack on the "new colonialism" of austerity, describing unfettered capitalism as “the dung of the devil” and apologising for the Catholic church's role in the conquest of indigenous populations in the Americas.

The first Latin American pope noted that church leaders in the past had acknowledged that "grave sins were committed against the native peoples of America in the name of God".

"I would also say, and here I wish to be quite clear: I humbly ask forgiveness, not only for the offenses of the church herself, but also for crimes committed against the native peoples during the so-called conquest of America"

Would that include the Incas and Aztecs too, or is he just talking about North America? And yes, that's a rhetorical question.

I thought America-bashing was out of vogue in Europe? Guess not.

I think it's pretty clear, the entire Catholic Church itself is now an enemy of the United States

Is the Pope Catholic? or just the errand boy for the UN and their New World Order?

Does this mean the Indigenous people of the Americas should go back to Human Sacrifice and Cannibalism?

    So many questions.

Jerry Brown and Pope Francis to talk climate change, trafficking

SACRAMENTO — Gov. Jerry Brown announced plans to travel to the Vatican this month to join Pope Francis and United Nations leaders to discuss two “tragic emergencies” that are connected: climate change and human trafficking.

The two-day event beginning July 21 will be hosted by the Pontifical Academies of Sciences and Social Sciences as a way to call for local jurisdictions to take action on issues highlighted in the pope’s recent pastoral letter. The encyclical focused on how environmental degradation is the biggest challenge humans face and how the impacts are most felt by the world’s poor.

According to the Pontifical Academies, one workshop will highlight the fact that “global warming is one of the causes of poverty and forced migration, which are breeding grounds for human trafficking, forced labor, prostitution and organ trafficking."

    Boycott the Pope!

Catholic congressman says he will boycott Pope Francis over climate change stance

"If the Pope stuck to standard Christian theology, I would be the first in line," he wrote. "If the Pope spoke out with moral authority against violent Islam, I would be there cheering him on. If the Pope urged the Western nations to rescue persecuted Christians in the Middle East, I would back him wholeheartedly. But when the Pope chooses to act and talk like a leftist politician, then he can expect to be treated like one."

    Castro praises Pope's anti-capitalism stance

Cuban President Raul Castro welcomed Pope Francis in a long speech at the airport. In his speech, Castro said the communist government has "founded an equitable society with social justice" in Cuba and he praised the pope's critiques of the global economic system that has "globalized capital and turned money into its idol."

Castro thanked Francis for facilitating negotiations that led to a detente between the United States and Cuba. Castro is also calling for the end of U.S. trade embargo on Cuba, which he called "cruel, immoral and illegal," and the return of the U.S. naval base at Guantanamo Bay.

Castro praised his country's socialist model for building a society "focused on human beings and the family" and said he's "firmly determined to ... build a just and virtuous society with high ethical and spiritual values."

The pope is expected to continue his travels to the United States and arrives in Washington on Sept. 22.

There, he will become the first pope to address Congress, where he is sure to discuss recent controversial views on the dangers of capitalism and that climate change is manmade.

On White House Lawn, Pope calls on U.S. to fight climate change

WASHINGTON - Pope Francis on Wednesday urged the United States to help tackle climate change and touched on other divisive U.S. political issues such as immigration and economic inequality on his first visit to the world's richest nation.

In a speech on the White House South Lawn on the first full day of his U.S. trip, the Argentine pontiff lauded President Barack Obama's efforts to reduce air pollution, months after Francis made the environment one of his top concerns by issuing a landmark encyclical letter to the church.

"It seems clear to me also that climate change is a problem which can no longer be left to a future generation. When it comes to the care of our common home, we are living at a critical moment of history," the pope said at a welcoming ceremony.
