    Harrison? Sorry, that's not enough

The Steelers are bringing back James Harrison on a two-year contract, the team and player announced this afternoon.Views: That’s it?
    Sorry, that’s not enough.
Don’t misunderstand here, please: Harrison has something left, even at age 37. I believe that, and I’d be surprised if anyone else didn’t after how he consistently graded out game after game in 2014. On top of that, he’s essentially needed after the Steelers waited and waited without making any other move at this position of glaring need other than bringing back Arthur Moats. If he’s in a support role with Jarvis Jones and/or Moats and/or a high draft pick, that’s at least workable.

But giving credit for that is akin to crediting someone for digging out of a self-made hole.
    The facts are these:
    • The Steelers have a far tougher schedule in 2015, No. 1 in the NFL, actually. What worked to get them to 11-5 last season won’t be good enough this season............

Can we at least wait until the damn draft has concluded before we jump out of a high window?

The AFC North will have the same schedule with the exception of two games....This is not the time to panic, even if the defense is not very good, even with the return of Harrison

Where's all this cap room he's talkiing about? Does he not realize that they're going to have to re-sign Heyward and DeCastro soon?

And, um, we do have two first round draft picks that are getting ready for their second and third seasons. I know people rip on Jones, but seriously, people are making judgments on his play when he was a rookie. I think having them, and Moats and Harrison as backups is an excellent idea. I'd want to see one more player who could come off the bench at either position, and then I'd be happy. Is it the best situation? No. But it's a rebuilding situation, and it takes time to develop players.

It's not enough. But it's a huge step in the right direction...

Let's dig up Reggie White and see if he has any legs left.

Great news. He has to finish his career here.

Doesn't hurt that he was probably our best defender last year.

Re: Harrison? Sorry, that's not enough

Jones was looking like he was going to be an impact player for us before a freak accident play that derailed his second season in the league. Also, I am expecting big things from Shazier in his second year as long as Timmons doesn't give him another injury.

There was no bringing back Worilds, he decided to retire and focus on working in his faith, which I respect.

Harrison brings us depth, and if we don't spend a first round pick on an OLB this year he might even start, which is fine because he can still generate a pass rush.

Hopefully we can either trade for Keenan Lewis or draft a CB in the first round. If we trade for Lewis, we might go OLB in the first round.

I'm not going to panic about the schedule, it is what it is. We have no control over it. What will likely happen is some teams expected to be good won't be all that good, and some teams expected to be bad will surprise everyone. We will also lose at least one game against a team we should have killed.

Re: Harrison? Sorry, that's not enough

The Steelers do not have ton of cap room considering they still need to sign a rookie class (about 4-5 million) and like to have an in season contingency of around 1-2 million. So that means they need to be about 6 million under prior to the draft.

This website (http://overthecap.com/salary-cap/pittsburgh-steelers) has the team right around that #.

Additionally, exactly who was it that DK wanted them to sign? Worilds? Orakpo? Morgan? Or perhaps one of the miss-cast 3-4 OLB that are better 4-3 defensive ends by all accounts such as Sheard (Hey! Did you hear he went to Pitt? He must be awesome!) or Graham? Or maybe DK wanted to spend 2-4 million dollars per year on a jumped up 3rd corner like Mcain or Robinson?

I am by no means arguing that signing Harrison means they fixed the defense and let's all go buy Super Bowl tickets tomorrow, but (once again) this is a totally unthoughtful, useless piece of journalism/editorial. Seriously, whatever they are paying DK, I will take 2/3 of his salary and do twice the job.

Jarvis moving to left could work, he wouldn't see the stud tackles on that side.

I believe he was sure they would sign Worilds. I'm sure glad he was wrong.

I don't know if Jones is even strong enough to beat a TE.

Re: Harrison? Sorry, that's not enough

I'm willing to wait on this because, like FS76 said the draft has not happened yet. Plus I think that injury that Jarvis Jones had last season affected him more than we know. Not to mention the Ryan Shazier was banged up all of last year and, to me this signing was more of an insurace policy. I know Harrison was one of our best defensive players last as well and, it speaks volumes that hey bring him back for two years. I still think he has some left in the tank.
