Colts propose allowing teams to “go for three” after TDs

If the NFL adopts an odd rule proposal from the Colts, a nine-point game will be a one-possession game.

The Colts will propose a new rule at next weeks league meeting that would allow teams to try for a bonus point after a successful two-point conversion. So if a team lines up for a two-point conversion attempt and succeeds, that team would then line up at the 32-yard line and try a 50-yard field goal. If the kick is good, the team would get one point, for a total of nine points on the possession: six on the touchdown, two on the conversion and one on the bonus kick.

The proposal is, for now, just to try the rule during the preseason. If its successful in the preseason, in the future it could be considered in the regular season. Its not unusual for the league to try out new rules in the preseason; last year the league experimented with making extra points harder in preseason games.

Why not just have a 30-point conversion. Each team puts 40 players on the field, you start at midfield, it has to be a running play but you can use as many laterals if you want, if you get to the end zone you get 30 points, and the opposing team has to pay for ice cream.

Stupid and Arena Football were the two things that immediately popped into my head after reading this.

I think it may work, but if you miss the extra point you subtract the 2 point play, then subtract the kickers shoe size from the score, divide that by the age of the oldest uncle on the field. multiply by his wife's age, take the number of tickets sold, subtract the number of empty seats, place that number over the original number, carry the number of hotdogs sold,,, man Goodell is going to love this idea, where was I?......................... Here's an idea. Leave my damn game alone.

Re: Colts propose allowing teams to “go for three” after TDs

Here's what they need to do: Eliminate the regular 1-point kick after a touchdown, and award anywhere from 0-2 points for the end zone dance. Then if the dance gets 2 points, the offensive team can elect to try for a third point by having both kickers line up at midfield and beat the hell out of each other in a helmet-swinging fight until one of them is knocked out. If the kicker for the offense wins, they get an extra point, but if the kicker for the defensive team wins, the offense LOSES a point. Also, concussion rules would not apply to this because kickers are dumb.

Not only is this incredibly stupid, it would also make games longer...which I thought the league wanted to fix.

Doesn't matter to Goodell, though. He'll support it. "Damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead!"

Re: Colts propose allowing teams to “go for three” after TDs

Getting rid of the grounding penalty would really improve offenses, but the Sackmaster of the year might get 3 or 4. They could also add a 12th man to the offense like a DH in baseball.

How about a Mulligan? You know...for anything. Would've come in handy when Tim Tebow burnt Ike Taylor for a Playoff Win...

Re: Colts propose allowing teams to “go for three” after TDs

    Because a 3 1/2 hour game isn't long enough.

Score a TD. Commercial break while refs review.
2 point conversion. Commercial break while refs review.
Extra extra point. Commercial break, cause you know, why not?
    KO, rather touchback. Commercial break.

If they could only figure out have to have commercials all the time.
