this is nuts we are starting to see a real trend in players at the start of their careers or in their so called prime hanging them up long before their skills are deminished

saw it on espn too. WOW, well good luck to him in all of his endeavors. Guy is a class act. Would have liked to see my fellow alumni run shit in the NFL but hey, life isnt all about football. What a tough offseason for 49ers fans
Take note, Troy, before it's too late.
The league has to be scratching their collective heads with all the early retirements of young and productive players ...
perhaps they need to look into the new helmet technology they have been hesitant to till this point , technology has advanced and they have been slow to adopt
this retirement is something he clearly has been pondering for at least a month now it seems
What???? Now that one is really shocking. He only played one year and with Willis retiring had an open spot to step into. Wow!

Man, Borland was a guy a lot of us here liked before he was drafted. Good luck to him in future endeavors.
What's the roster turnover ratio thus far in San Fran? What a rough offseason they're having. Sheesh.
lost both starting CBs, Gore, Crabtree,Borland, Willis retire Franchise QB put on trade block -Excellent coach fired and about to lose Justin Smith
NOT TO SHABBY IF YOUR LOOKING TO GO 3-13
No luck, they took a chance on Marcus Lattimore with a mid Round pick also retired LY

A lot of forgiving and understanding people around here. I wonder if everything was the same except this was a Steeler if everyone would be so sympathetic? And don't confuse this with Jason Worlidis. Because I think we all figured that he had played his last down as a Steeler, so his retirement merely meant we didn't have to see him blossom or fail elsewhere in the league. Anyway say this was a Steeler that emotionally we were heavily invested in going into next season, how are you reacting today? Pragmatic, good for him approach? Or this gutless prick doesn't deserve the talent God gave him!!!![]()
I keed, but in a serious way.

"A man's got to know his limitations."
On one hand, people say "Players know what they are getting into and therefore are not allowed to sue the NFL due to head injuries later in life".
On the other hand, people say "What are these young buck players thinking, retiring when they have so much talent and such a good career ahead of them".
You can't have it both ways. Players can't win for losing. They are either greedy idiots or quitters. Maybe he made some good investments and is set for life financially and would rather live a healthy life.

I won't knock a guy for retiring early. When you say, "Players know the risks; nobody's forcing them to play professional football," this is exactly what it means.
Of course, for a lot of players, what your life would be like if you were not fortunate enough to be a pro athlete is a pretty powerful motivator to keep playing anyway. You've always got a choice, but sometimes it's pretty ugly. I really think that in about 15-20 years, football will have become the modern-day equivalent of professional boxing. It'll probably still retain more popularity because it has so much to begin with, but you can see the progression starting.
Does this mean the USA will finally get good at soccer?
See you Space Cowboy ...
The guy is a pussy. Maybe baseball will become the #1 sport in the USA again.
All Defense!
See you Space Cowboy ...
I understand the fear of not being able to process information as quickly or remembering things at age 45.
It's not a given all football players will end up that way but it's a legitimate concern.

On the other hand, on top of everything else if the 49ers manage to trade their QB they're sitting there with a staggering amount of cap space. Not like it does them a world of good at this juncture.
