Increasing pressure on QBs will be offseason focus for Steelers

Mike Tomlin alluded to it during his season-ending news conference.

A couple of weeks later, newly promoted defensive coordinator Keith Butler made a reference to it as well.

Even Steelers team president Art Rooney II brought it up while talking to a select group of print media Wednesday.

    Pressure. Hurries. Sacks.

The Steelers want them. The Steelers need them. The Steelers haven't gotten much of them the past four years — especially last year — and they know that needs to change if they want to improve their struggling defense.

The two most important things a pro football defense must do to be effective is to stop the run and rush the QB. They go hand in hand. Stopping the run makes the offense predictable and puts them in Long yardage situations which helps the pass rushers have more time to get to the QB.
