    The new Pledge of Allegiance

Seems we did get a little off the "right path", didn't we???

    Worth reading

Written by a 15 yr. old School Kid in
    Ohio :

    New Pledge of Allegiance

Since the Pledge of Allegiance & The
    Lords Prayer

Are not allowed in Schools anymore

Because the word 'God' is mentioned...

A Kid in Ohio wrote the attached...

    NEW School prayer :

Now I sit me down in school
Where praying is against the rule
For this great nation under God
Finds mention of Him very odd.

If Scripture now the class recites,
It violates the Bill of Rights.
And anytime my head I bow
    Becomes a Federal matter now..

Our hair can be purple, orange or green,
    That's no offense; it's a freedom thing..

The law is specific, the law is precise..

Prayers spoken aloud are a serious vice.
For praying in a public hall
Might offend someone with no faith at
    all.

In silence alone we must meditate,
God's name is prohibited by the state.

We're allowed to cuss and dress like
    freaks,
And pierce our noses, tongues and
    cheeks...
We can carry smut, but not the Bible.
To quote the Good Book makes me liable.

We can elect a pregnant Senior Queen,
And the 'unwed daddy,' our Senior King..
It's 'inappropriate' to teach right from
    wrong,
We're taught that such 'judgments' do not
    belong.

We can get our condoms and birth
    controls,
    Study vampires and totem poles.
But the Ten Commandments are not allowed,

No word of God must reach this crowd.

It's scary here I must confess,
When chaos reigns the school's a mess.
So, Lord, this silent plea I make:
Should I be shot; My soul please take!
    Amen

I don't believe this was actually written by a 15 year old.

    On Top of Spagetti

    All covered with MUD!

    I shot my poor teacher

    With a .44 Slug

    I shot her with pleasure

    I shot her with pride

    I couldn't have missed her

    She's 40 feet wide!

I used to sing that in school, back before Zero Tolerance.

Not sure how reliable this site is, but it looks interesting, and here's what they present as the current pledge maps. This first is school requirements:

And this one is student requirements:

I'm not sure where the idea came about that the Pledge is not being recited. Last I heard, the SCotUS had agreed to review the infamous 9th Circuit case from a few years back. Until that happens, the status quo is the rule.

I'd like to see an article that states that the pledge is banned from schools. I've looked...can't find a single one.

I've seen articles on people who have tried to have the pledge banned from their school districts, but they've all lost on Constitutional grounds. Also, the pledge has only every been federally "mandated" to be recited in schools for 3 whole years (1940-1943...before any mention of God in the pledge). Since then, the Supreme Court has upheld that is is compulsory...since forcing students to say it would violate 1st amendment rights.

I think the kid (or whoever wrote this) is more upset about prayer being taken out of public schools, because the Pledge (including "under God") has not been.

I didn't think it was banned, I have met Michael Newdow and talked at length with him regarding his case. Last I heard it was looking bleak for him.

Bleak for his lawsuit, you mean? That's a shame. I'm not a fan of the Pledge in any form, but I would have liked to see it revert to the original text all the same.

Actually, what is stopping individual states from reverting the Pledge? Does Washington decide how the Pledge must read? That wouldn't make any sense, since the states decide if it is to be used at all.

By the way... take a close look at the two maps, and tell me if you notice a peculiar pattern.

Yes, for his lawsuit, he's doing quite well personally. A state can do whatever ti wants regarding the pledge, there is no Constitutional mandate to say it a particular way.
