NFL to hold combine for veteran free agents

NFL combines will take on an older look when the league adds one for veteran players to go with the massive event it holds for potential draftees. The veterans combine will take place March 22 at the Arizona Cardinals' training facility in Phoenix. That is about one month after the regular combine for rookies in Indianapolis. Birk sent a memo to the 32 teams earlier in the day about the new combine. It will be open to veteran free agents who will participate in position-specific drills, timing and testing, and other customary combine activities...

So now a player becoming a free agent, doesn't need to play great for a full season, all he needs to do is put on a show for this. Fatass Haynesworth wishes he had this, so he could get paid based on this combine and not have to put forth 2 years of effort

What a great idea!!! How else could you get tape of a 7 year veteran in a football-like environment!!!

will be a great tool for guys coming off injury to prove to all teams in one setting they have in fact recovered and are ready to go ...

also will be good for guys coming off rookie contracts that did not see much of the field because they had an all pro in front of them ...

    otherwise wholeheartedly agree

Not sure how many talented players "fell through the cracks" because of the lack of a Veteran Combine. I'm sure its not enough to justify another ESPN dog and pony show by the commish in order to sell commercial time.

The only one that I "might" be interested in would be Alex Carrington

I'd be interested in Carrington and maybe upgrade Landry Jones with Tyler Wilson.
