ESPN's Stuart Scott Passes Away At Age 49

Stuart Scott, a longtime anchor at ESPN, died Sunday morning at the age of 49.

Among the features of the new ESPN studio in Bristol is a wall of catchphrases made famous by on-air talent over the years. An amazing nine of them belong to one man -- from his signature "Boo-Yah!" to "As cool as the other side of the pillow" to "He must be the bus driver cuz he was takin' him to school."

That man is Stuart Scott, and his contributions to the sports lexicon are writ large. But they are only one aspect of his legacy. When he passed away, he left behind so much more. He inspired his colleagues with his sheer talent, his work ethic and his devotion to his daughters, Taelor, 19, and Sydni, 15. He defied convention and criticism to help bring this network into a new century. He spoke to the very athletes he was talking about with a flair and a style that ESPN president John Skipper says, "changed everything."

Was not always a fan of his shtick but one thing I always liked about Stuart Scott genuinely loved his work. I know one year on a night off from working the NBA finals i heard him gushing about a hockey game he went to. He loved sports. And honestly, I wonder if many of these anchors even like the sports they cover.

Condolences to his family. RIP Stuart Scott.

I was never his biggest fan. Though in time he grew on me. Even before he became sick I came to appreciate his unique style. But where he truly won me over was at the ESPY's when he received the Arthur Ashe courage award. You could tell he was very ill. But there was no self pity in his speech. No why me. Just courage, fight, acceptance, appreciation, and love for his daughters. Sorry he passed so early. My sympathies to his daughters, loved ones, and co workers.

So young. I can't think of a thing I hate more than cancer. My heart fell sympathy to the family and friends.

Since I never watch ESPN except when there is a baseball game on, I had no idea he was even sick. I did enjoy some of his catchphrases back when I was a regular viewer, though. RIP.

And cancer...you can fuck right off.

Did he actually come up with that? I don't' remember where I first heard it, I thought in a movie. But yeah, that is my favorite for coolness because NOTHING is cooler than the other side of the pillow … not even Fonzie.

Stuart Scott was one of my favorites growing up. Even if you didn't like him, he was very memorable. I didn't know he was so sick until now.

49 is too young. RIP Mr. Scott.

Very sad news. The way he handled his fight with cancer was one of the most inspiring things ever. The speech he gave at the ESPY Awards last year was really powerful.

    Cancer is dicks. RIP.

I always like Stuart and, will miss seeing him. I think it was him that said after Bettis fumbled the ball against the colts in that 2005 playoff game Can someone Help A Brother Out? I thought that was funny.
